Jetlag and Exercise

I spend each summer in the USA and am flying out next week. I have managed to 'conquer' jetlag by making my way to Walgreen the minute the plane lands and stuffing a variety of drugs into my system. However this just allows me to function as a barely alive person for around 4 days until I get used to the time difference between the UK and Colorado. It also increases my appetite!
Our condo in Denver has a gym so i want to be able to keep up the exercise regime and not resort to snoozing in Starbucks with my head resting on a half-eaten muffin.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to the best time of day to get in the best workout and any over-the-counter remedies?
Thanks! Ali
