Shakes to lose weight?

Yesterday I broke my arm, two weeks ago I hurt both by knees. As a result there'll be basically no exercise in the next month or so.
Now I've been eating healthy and varied but hardly been losing weight. I'm considering to move to diet/protein shakes for the next month. I realise that I'll have to go back to normal eating very carefully after, but in these circumstances it seems like an ok idea.
Are there any pitfalls or problems concerning this idea?
(part of it is also finding out how hard it is to cook a healthy meal while being very confined in movement)
