Body pump class

Just wondering if anyone similar to my size has worn a heart rate monitor in a body pump class and how many calories you burnt. I've entered it into my diary under calisthenics and it comes up as over 400, and if I put it under strength training it's about 160. I'm 156cms and 54kg.
Thanks :)

I don't have an answer, sorry, but I'm a very similar size to you (170cm and 55kg) and am wondering exactly the same thing! I don't want to overestimate, but at the same time, my class is very very intense so I think I'm burning more than just the 160

I always enter my bodypump as circuit training...it is a good average of the 2...I just bought a heartrate monitor so I can know for sure...can't wait for it to arrive :)

I burn about 561 in pump, I work hard and push myself. I lift decent weights which is really important (as long as you keep good technique of course). Does that help?
There have been times when I have gone over 600!

I burned about 500 when I did Body pump....compare that to the 800 I burned when I did body attack! That class about killed me!

I'm much bigger than you but do have a good level of fitness. Wearing my HRM today, I burnt 316, however, when I started out using lighter weights, I was only burning between 150 & 200. I've always used a HRM but have noticed lots of comments stating that the MFP calorie burn is very high.

    I was wondering that too.
I'm 5'5'' and 61kg (136lb) and have been listing in as strength/weights in the cardio section It gives me about 160 cals too.
Seems low but 400-500 might be too high! Don't want to be over estimating either.

Yes I am 5'6 3/4'' and about 140 lbs (haven't weighed in over a month but clothes are loser so a guess)

I burn w/ HRM in body pump about 180 calories - I push myself on a scale of 10 at an 8 b/c body pump is on the same day as another very hard work out for me.

I love body attack but the first time I did it I could bend down to get the sponge in the shower afterwards!!

I'm 5'6 and 88kg and I burn around 250-350 depending if I 'up' my weights and remember to 'squeeze' lol :)
  • Not sure about the actual amount (the battery was flat in my HRM) but I did a pump class (the first one ever) last month and literally couldn't walk properly for 5 days!!

My parter was cacking himself watching me get up and down stairs like a granny! Every muscle in my body felt like it had gone on strike for the week.

That will learn me not to act all tough and try to use the same weights as the regulars!! :S

I log Body Pump as weight training.

By the way, HRMs don't give an accurate calorie burn during weight training due to spikes in HR. Their calculations are based around relatively steady-state cardio.

Ther's a lot of variables at play - your weight, the weights your lift, the effort you put in....

I'm 5'2, 140 lbs, and I lift fairly heavy. A 45 minute Pump class would burn about 300-400 calories.

Bear in mind, everything's an estimate, but that's a rough guide.

Sorry, I don't have an answer. I do love body pump though and always class it as strength training. For me it's not about the calories with that class and more about toning. I do lift heavier weights on the back track though because I know that can be a big calorie burner. I really need to up my weights, especially with the chest track. That one is such a killer for me and totally dread it each class! Meh. I suppose it's never going to get easier as I up my weights (although I will get stronger, which is good).
