Has anyone who as lost 50+ pounds noticed significant skin sagging?
I feel like I'm losing weight too fast and I'm nervous about the effects.

I have lost 70 and have some loose skin, but I am also 57.:ohwell: It does seem to be tightening up slowly with exercise.0

Yepper. However, given a choice, I prefer the loose skin as opposed to fat anyday! It is getting better since I incorporated weight training.0

I have lost 51 pounds but I am 61. I hear that it gets better as time goes on. mine is getting better but it is a slow process. Do you work out with weights at all??0

I lost mine when I was 15 and lost it slowly...70lbs over 9 months and had sagging skin on my legs all these years. I wish I knew about weight training when I was 15. My abs tightened right up but not my legs, where I carried most of my weight. But they're def getting better with weight training...probably 50% improvement in the past 3 months on my current program...0

I'm not an expert, but I've heard that how much loose skin you have depends highly on 1) how much water you drink (it helps the elasticity of your skin) and 2) how quickly/slowly you lose the weight. If you lose it slowly and are drinking a lot of water, your skin has time to shrink, if you lose it quickly or aren't drinking enough water to keep the elasticity of your skin, your skin doesn't have time to shrink down. I lost 55 lbs. over the course of a year and a half and did not notice having extra skin. I was still about 30 lbs. overweight at that point, so who knows if I would have had I gotten down to goal. Hope this helps!0

I lost 75lbs and don't have much loose skin. I lost it over a 9 month period, and ran 5 days a week. A little loose skin on my legs, but I'm over 50 so i guess that should be expected.0

A couple years ago i lost nearly 60 pounds inless than 2 months, causing some major loose skin on lower abdomen and inside upper thighs!
Now, since I am taking the weight off slowly and exercising daily, I have noticed that the skin is tightening up on my thighs (where it used to over lap, that is now gone)
I will prolly still need some surgery since most of my weight is in belly and thighs. But, not as much as Dr.'s originally thought. Both my surgeons told me that some saggy/loose skin is to be expected, but with exercise can tighten up on its own. They both told me to give it about a year.
Hope this helps!0 -
I've lost 60 pounds in about four months and I"m not experiencing any loose skin.0

Yes, but it seems to be improving with exercise. I think it's just going to take time to tighten up again and I still have hope that eventually I won't have any!0

I'm down 50 pounds and I notice it a little on my inner thighs and underarms. Also my abdominal skin is loose (not saggy per se, just looser). I think it really depends on genetics, how much muscle you have, and build during your weight loss. I drink a ton of water and moisturize twice a day and I don't think those things have made much of a difference for me.
f you are just starting I would highly recommend do strength training right off the bat, and make it progressive. Your muscle will "fill in" (for lack of a better term) the space in your skin, and make you look firmer.
Regardless of skin, the health benefits for dropping weight and losing fat will out weight the time it takes for your skin to respond.0 -
I lost 55 pounds in a year with counting calories AND almost daily exercise - cardio and strength training and I have noticed some minor loose skin in my upper legs (inner thighs and above the knees) and what my nine year old daughter loving refers to "flappy" upper arms. Exercise and losing it slowly helps, but won't prevent it all, especially as you get older and if you have a lot to lose AND how long you have been a heavier weight for. Those all play a factor for me. I need to lose 33 more pounds to get to my goal weight - a normal BMI for my height. Not gonna lie - my chest and stomach are not loose yet, but I am worried about what may happen 30 pounds from now. I try not to worry about it. I have to worry about meeting calorie and exercise goals daily while taking care of a family with 3 kids, a dog, a husband, a job, and a house, so I focus on what I can change and play up what I like about myself.0
