"Retraining" your taste buds?

So I'm pickier than I'd like to be. I really don't eat any fruit, but I do like most veggies (though I'm getting better). I always see recipes that look REALLY yummy and then realize i wouldn't like half the ingredients in it. :( Can you retrain your tastebuds to like foods that you normally wouldn't enjoy?

Definitely! Part of it is being open minded and not just saying "I don't like that veggie, so I'm not even going to try it".
And part of it is experimenting to see what food and cooking methods you enjoy.
For example, I'm not a big fan of pumpkin, but roasted and added to a salad with baby spinach, rocket and balsamic dressing - yum!
And I don't really like cauliflower when it is cooked, but if it is steamed, sprinkled with salt and pepper and a bit of cheese then grilled, its pretty good. Or roasted is even better, it would never have occurred to me that you could even roast cauliflower, but I saw a recipe, tried it out, and loved it.

I suggest that you pick one ingredient at a time - google it and look for a recipe that has other things that you like, and give it a go. If you don't like it, then try something different next time. With time, you'll probably find heaps of things that you'd never even thought of eating.

I've found that I'm much more used to food that isn't as sweet as I usually like too. I don't add sugar to my porridge - just fruit or peanut butter and now I'm used to it, it tastes fine.
