Ok this is probably a stupid question, but I bought some unsalted in-shell peanuts the other day. I got them in bulk (wrote down the cals/carbs/fats/proteins) but my question is how many peanuts are in a half a cup? Does that mean 1/2 cup in the shell or 1/2 cup once I break them out? lol...what a silly question but I can't figure it out!

  • Thats a good question! I don't know either. Obviously there is a big difference.
  • I think its without shells. A serving size is usually the amount you acually eat. I'm not positive though. That really is a good question.

I only measure out what im going to eat.. Like when i have soybeans in the pods i don't eat the pods so i measure out how many soy beans i eat.. You might have to crack the nuts into a measuring cup and see how many equals to a 1/2 cup un shelled...

Planters - Cocktail Peanuts - Unsalted, 0.5 cup 500 calories
    16 carbs
    40 grams fat
    20 grams protein
    0 salt
    4 grams fiber

The above is from MFP database, and since these nuts are not sold in the shell, the measurement would not include them, so perhaps this will give you an idea of how your values were calculated.

    Good luck.

1/4 cup of shelled peanuts is about 20 unshelled peanuts. I actually counted because I only eat shelled peanuts. Yes I am a nut:laugh:

Thanks for the help everyone! I still didn't totally figure it out, but I did find somewhere that said about 65g for 1/2 cup unshelled..but I guess that did even out to about 40 whole peanuts haha! Thanks!

I should proofread I got that backwards but then my mind works in reverse anyway.

I'm glad I was in the right vicinity. I can eat 20 whole peanuts and call it 1/4 cup=160cals.
