Hi everyone;

I was wondering how much calories extra should a full time nursing mother consume? How do we calculate that? People told me nursing you would lose wieght automatically but it seems I lost in the first 2 months now I'm gaining ... thank you!

    Its around 500 cal a day extra you need to eat.

    However the easiest way to do it is to add it to your food diary - you can search and add it like a normal food but it takes away rather than adding cal. There are several options if you search 'breastfeeding' in the food database so just pick the one that fits best.

    TheArmadillo, thank you for replying to my question. Maybe I am blind but I don't see any BF options. Can you help me find it? thanks!

    Search breastfeeding through your food log like you would any other food. There are a lot of options different people have entered, make sure you pick a 500 calorie one. Once my daughter started solids around 7 months I went down to 300 extra. Congrats on your new addition!

    So you add 500calories in the food log? But to what should I set my calorie daily allowance? figure out my goal according to my hieght and weight then add 500?
