Newbie here, from UK Midlands

Hi all. I just discovered mfp last week after starting the NHS c25k running plan. I'm finding mfp to be an invaluable way to track my calorie intake and exercise, and very encouraging. I've lost 4lbs in my first week (no silly fad diets, just eating more sensibly and being more active), and feel really motivated now to achieve my goal (I want to be able to run on the beach shown in my ticker).

A little bit about me... I'm a vegetarian in my forties and I live in the sunny *cough* Midlands of the United Kingdom. I've just taken up running for the first time in my life, and I am already hooked. I also like walking, cycling, horse-riding and bodyboarding, although I've done little of these in the last few years due to being overweight and suffering health problems. I'm a newly keen gardener, but I've always been interested in the natural world and conservation/environmental issues.

My aim is to improve my fitness and lose weight, so I can become a 'real runner' and also try out some new activities such as surfing, and maybe take part in a triathlon. I'd love to chat to others who can relate to this, so we can motivate each other to reach our goals.

Hi Bex. Good luck with the op and the wedding. I definitely recommend c25k, even if I have only just started. It has completely changed my attitude to my own health, and the support forums are fantastic.
