Semi-formal themes?
I am on the Annual Party Committee at work and we are trying to come up with a theme for our party in January. In the past, the party has always been formal dress with a theme to suit. Last year, we went slightly more casual – “Passport to Paradise.” It was island/beach themed and people wore everything from sundresses or shirt and tie to shorts and Hawaiian shirts. It was a huge hit. So this year, we want to stick to the semi-formal (or flexible) dress. Any theme ideas? I know how creative you MFPers are; so don’t hold out on me.
I have only thought of two:
Garden Party
Nautical
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated as I have no brainpower left for this at the moment.

How about a Black and White party?
Or, getting really crazy, 80's Prom?0 -
Have you considered a Casino night? This is what we did for our Christmas party last year and it was such a hit we are going to do it again.
We called big brothers and big sisters for help and they were the ones dealing the cards and chips and whatnot. Everybody started with a certain number of chips (i think it was about $100 worth of "chips" each) then at the end of the night we had gift cards that you go to bid on with your casino winnings. There were 4 $100 gift cards and 8 $50 cards. We had a ball and it can definately stay casual.
We threw in a steak and lobster dinner as well before the "casino" opened.
Hope that gets your creative juices going :drinker:0 -
I like the casino idea!
How about A Red-Carpet Cocktail party
The Prom theme sounds fun too! 80's haha! That would be great!
Roaring 20's
Disco
Murder Mystery theme:
Victorian masquerade.

You work for a company that has an annual party AND it's themed for formal/ semi-formal attire? :noway:
I wanna work there!!! :sad:0 -

It is not nearly as glamorous as it sounds. I don't think we should have had a party last year at all since we laid off 30+ people! But a job is a job and at least I get to do some fun stuff like this.0 -
I suppose it depends on what kind of weather you have...I live in Minnesota so shorts and sundresses in January usually aren't a good idea!
You could pretty much pick any decade and make a theme out of it...
50's...white t-shirts and slicked hair for men and poodle skirts and big hair for women
70's you could do a hippie theme
80's loud neon, stone washed denim and really BIG hair
Or a mexican theme could be fun
Or since it is January you could do a super bowl/tailgate party
Good luck with whatever you do!0
