how hot has it been? the thing with hill repeats is you tend to get a lot of recovery and a repetitive route allowing for water, ice, etc. I haven't really found treadmills to be a good comparable to a real life hill. In addition, a treadmill tends to hide a lot of form issues that hill training works on correcting.
That is just me though. I am not generally a warm weather runner but I've gotten them in every weekend despite 80F+ and humid at the start. It is all about preparation.0 -
Probably your best bet is intervals on a fairly steep incline.
How long until your race? Is the course hilly?
If the race may be run in hot weather and the course is hilly you may want to reconsider training indoors. Your body needs to acclimate to running in the heat (if the race may be on a hot day) or else you may find your performance affected by the higher temps.0 -
Its has been 100 and thats not including the humidity. My race is not till Sept 23 and the course is flat. There might be a bit of an incline but not too much that I would need tons oif training0

I would say go for high intensity sprints on an incline would be best.
Alternate between sprinting for 30 seconds, jogging for 30 - try to do as many reps of this as you can and then building up over time. I love doing this, so much more fun and beneficial for jogging on a treadmill for 45 minutes!
You could also do this on a spinning bike if you wanted a break from the treadmill.
Google HIIT for info - I ran a 21k race in April and my training consisted of HIIT and weights - no long distance.
Also weights can be great for building up your strength, theres heaps of routine ideas on youtube and google in general.
Good luck : )0
