Cutting out sugar

So I've come to the conclusion that I am addicted to sugar. With this realization, and my own personality, I've decided that I need to cut sugar out of my diet, as completely as I can. I'm just trying to figure out the right way to do that. I've thought about doing a "no sugar/no white flour" sort of thing, but that seems a bit drastic to jump into. On the other hand, if I allow too many loopholes, it's going to fail, too.
So, I guess my question is: for those of you that have cut out or drastically decreased your sugar and/or white flour, how did you do it? Did it work? Any advice?
Thanks!

I wasn't addicted to sugar, but I was having issues with my energy levels and being tired after meals, being hungry too often, etc., and I figured sugar was the problem. I cut out all grains at the same time because I was doing the Whole 30 program. (URL is below for reference.)
Oddly, cutting them both helped - they are frequently served, prepared or processed together. Doing without one made me not miss the other - didn't expect that. It did work - very well. Good, stable energy levels now, which was my goal. And apparently that thing about flour being a bloater, ha! I don't know if it's true, but my tummy says it is.
I don't miss it now. I slipped once with a Ritter Sport bar during a hunger fueled trip to the store, but otherwise, it's been 17 days of no sugar or grain, and I feel really good. There's a book out by the owners of the site below, and it's a great read - It Starts With Food, by Hartwig. Whatever you decide to try, I hope it works out for you. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how good it feels to not eat sugar.
Links - not an infomercial, just what worked for me
