    Could you try swimming?

If the pain is really bad then maybe you should just stick with eating at your recommended calories for weight loss till it's better. You can still lose weight without exercise, and if your body needs time to heal you should really listen to it. If it's not that bad then you could try things that don't put to much pressure on your back. Exercise like swimming would be great depending on if your back pain spreads to your legs or not. You could try to do seated exercises like stationary biking, some weight lifting that does just legs or arms(chest flies, bicep curls, that kind of thing).

Normally I'd say walking is a good exercise as it's low impact. Sounds like a bad injury since even that is painful. Are you seeing a Physical Therapist or doctor for rehab?
If so, can they recommend exercises that are safe for you?
If not, can you? It sounds like it would be warranted if the pain is so bad that walking slowly on a flat surface is unbearable.

If walking hurts too much maybe you should just reduce calorie native a bit and focus on recovery. If you hurt it worse you could be sidelined for longer.
