Day of Rest

I have been doing Turbo Fire faithfully for about 4 weeks now, on the rest days I never do Turbo Fire but I do usually still go for a short run.
Is it recommended that you take a day of complete rest from working out??
I have recently gained weight instead of losing and the thought of taking a day off of working out terrifies me but I know the last time I did it, I got results.
Any input would be appreciated.

Letting your body rest for a day would help you recover in my opinion but I have read so many people still doing some light cardio on their rest days. It's all a personal preference.

I normally run 3 days a week and strength train the other 3. On my "rest" I often will still do light treadmill walking and stretching. Sometimes I don't take a rest day. I go by how I feel.

I think rest days are overrated. It was always pushed upon me that you needed rest days to recover, and I'm certainly not saying that you don't need recovery days from heavy resistance training. P90X taught me that recovery days could include cardio, yoga and stretching....and rather strenuous versions at that. It didn't slow my progress or affect my energy levels at all.....and they actually helped with recovery from the resistance training. I do think you absolutely need to rest things like strains, tendonitis, lower back, shoulder and knee pain, though.
