I really miss that feeling I get when I step on the scales and I've lost a pound. I'm so tired of just waiting and waiting to see some small pay off for the effort I've put into this whole process...
I made an appointment with a doctor today to get checked out. I really feel that there is something going on - hormones, thyroid, impending menopause....whatever. I will feel better just to get some validation or dismissal of my concerns. Until then (July 31), I am going to stay true to my commitment to get back into shape.

I sympathize with you. Although I have not been in the same situation, I do know the feeling of trying so hard to loose and feeling like I work my butt off and sometimes seeing no results. I found that a good way to sometimes kick a plateau is vary your calories up and down majorly. Like go high one day and low the next. I think it kind of keeps your metabolism on its toes lol. Hopefully you find a remedy to your situation . Best wishes0

I'm right there with you. We get so fixated on what the scale says. I gave my roommate the batteries to my scale and I'm not going to weigh myself for a month. I'm trying to focus on how I feel and not what the scale says. You should give it a try!0

I know we all love it when we step on the scale and it shows a decrease in body weight. But remember, the scale is only one measurement. And it can be full of empty validation. Are you taking measurements every 2 weeks or once a month? Are you seeing NSVs in other areas? If you've hit a plateau, try drastically changing your routine for a couple of weeks...different forms of cardio, strength train, change foods, times you eat, etc. Best of luck!!0

i used to have this same problem...now i only weigh myself every month. so much better than daily/weekly weigh ins! the scale actually moves!0

Hormonal imbalances are all too real for men and women. And when your hormones are off, it's an uphill battle that becomes VERY difficult to win. Glad to see you're taking it seriously.
My advice would be to ask your family physician to refer you out to a specialist. Family docs aren't experienced enough to know the problem and treat it adequately. They are often dismissive or are working with outdated info. I recommend a urologist or an endocrinologist for hormonal stuff. Unless one of those two specialists tells you you're fine, don't stop pursuing your options.

Remember one thing: The closer you get to your goal weight, especially one you've entered into the healthy weight range for your body, gains become agonizingly slow to get. This is because your body decides that its at a point where it's "good enough" and wants to stay there, it no longer wants to change like you want it to. See, your body in this context is a separate entity from you. It worked with you up to this point because it wanted to lose weight as much as you did. The difference is your body just wanted to be healthy. Now you are and your body has reached its goal it set for itself, but not the one you set for it. You're going to be working against it from here on out. And if the measurements are going down, or the obviousl level of muscle tone is going up, well then that's just as good, if not better!0

Good luck! I know that feeling too but you'll get there again. I've been trying to use my clothing as a way to measure my weight rather than just the scale...sometimes it works, other times I feel like I can only do the scale to really see.0

I'm your age, have hypothyroidism among other things - seems I can't get the last 8-10 (or whatever it is) off!!!

I know the feeling as well- I hope something works out for you after your drs appt. I went to my dr about 4 weeks ago about my weight. I'd been on a plateau for almost 2 years--I was losing inches, but not weight--going through a cycle of changing my diet for a couple of months (seeing nothing), then changing my workouts (still seeing nothing). At my drs office, I had a body composition test done and it gave me the amount of calories I need in order to maintain my current weight--which was 100 calories less than what MFP gave me--which makes a huge difference in the long run. He also gave me a new diet plan to try. I've since adjusted my calories and am on his new diet plan (still working out as hard as I was before), and am now down about 7lbs. I eat my new maintenance number of calories and get my daily defict through exercise.

I'm right there with you... the exact same age. I have been at this over 25 days and have lost about a pound. I hate myself less than I did a month ago, but I sure would like to see some result on the scale.0

I know that feeling so well. I didn't lose any weight from February to June and now that it's finally moving again, I don't care if it moves .2 I am jumping for joy! Hang in there, it will come! Try not to beat yourself up in the mean time...I know that's easier said than done!0

I really miss the feeling of the scale going in the right dirrection. I have plateau since late April and I keep going back and forth between 164-169. I just want to get under the 160 but it is being very difficult. So much I decided to take off last week from countin calories and going to the gym. To give my body a break. I restarted again Yesterday and I hope I can see something below 162.
But other than that I have graduated from C25k so at least those 2 months where not a bust.0 -

If you really think there's something wrong physically, find a good endochrinologist and get your thyroid and adrenals checked. I have hashimoto disease, (low thyroid/high antibodies). This was diagnosed by my primary care physician, but not for a number of years. Hopefully, everything will get better. There are several webistes that you can check out for information on thyroid conditions. Stopthethyroidmadness.com is a good one you can also Google thyroid and get more.
You may also be starting to plateau. This can surely be frustrating, but keep up the good work. We always love to see the scale move, but it doesn't always cooperate. You'll get there!

Good luck! I had my boyfriend hide the scale from me and only pull it out 1 day a week. It's easy to become obsessed by what the scale says. Take pride in the small achievements, focusing on the big picture sometimes can really mess with your head.0
