Hello everyone! My name is Beth and I am new to myfitnesspal.com. I'm 27 years old and two years ago I had extesive knee surgery that kept me in bed for 3 months with little movement. With the lack of movement, months of physical therapy, and my grandmother sending over "goodies", I went from 120 pounds to 150 pounds. I'm dying to loose weight and am finding it sooo hard to stick to a diet plan and have the time to jump on my treadmil at home. My treadmil is the only exercise equipment I have and I can't afford to go to the local gym. I'm a big fan of watching the Biggest Loser and find it very inspirational. But the inspiration fades about a day after I watch the episode. When I get out of work from a 10 hour day I immediately head to my grams to help take care of her for a few hours. By the time I get home at 8pm I am exhausted and tend to find the easiest thing in the fridge to make or call out for food. The only time I have to myself is the weekend. Any thoughts, inspiration, goal setting ideas, that would be great!!!

Thanks!
Beth

    Hi Beth! Welcome!

Maybe if Grams knew you were trying to eat healthy to lose weight and maintain your health, she could start cooking meals that were aimed towards your goals? I'm sure Grams could appreciate healthy meals too. Maybe you can even cook them with her? (I assume she cooks since she sent over goodies, but maybe not since you go over to look after her.)

  • Hi beth im new also and are hopeing to get alot out of all this. Can you tell me how to post something..im lost!
  • My grams has Maccular Degeneration as well as nerve damage from shingles. Before I had my surgery, my grandfather and I were helping out alot and when my grandfather went shopping he would buy donuts, chips, etc. for my boyfriend to pick up for me on his way home from work so I would have snacks while I was not allowed out of bed for 3 months after my surgery. Talk about easy access to goodies! Then 7 months after my surgery my grandfather had a bad stroke. He's not allowed to drive now and is barely walking with a cane. My uncle is going through a divorce and is staying with them, but he's a motorcycle mechanic and doesn't really come home until late when bikes are done and back out the door. So he's a little bit of help. I have backed off on all of the sugar and goodies I get offered daily when I go to my grams, but sometimes she wont take no for an answer and shoves a donut in my mouth.
I used to go on walks during my lunch break a few months ago, however my job just had our big conference and the catch up work is causing me to work and eat at the same time with no real break. And winter is just around the corner!
My boyfriend always yells at me because my pet peeve is that I'll go grocery shopping and buy chicken and veggies and fruits and as much variety as I can... but when I finally get home from work I always am not in the mood for anything that is stuffed in the fridge. And I know that this is something that I just have to suck it up and figure out how to make something good, but lack the motivation to do it.

Thanks for all your help guys! I love it here already!

    Beth

    Can the boyfriend help cook?

Can you cook all your meals on the weekend, freezing or refrigerating them as leftover for each night's dinner?
  • My boyfriend cooks once in a blue moon. He is only working part time 3 days a week right now.... so maybe it is time for me to put his butt in gear! I was thinking that honestly. Cook enough food on the weekend to create 2 choices of leftovers to alternate on during the week so I dont get bored.

Going through a separation right now, so I'm a little bit of a man hater, but I'll try to keep that man-hatin' tempered.....

If he is available and your schedule is SWAMPED (which it is), he needs to step up and help out. I'm assuming you are paying more of the bills since he is part time employed right now, so his cooking (and cleaning too, but we don't have to go there  ) can help to subsidize what he isn't bringing home in dollars right now.
  • I understand the man hater mentality.. been there... yes... I am the main bread winner right now. He got laid off in June and can't find anything permanent. I just made 1/2 piece of grilled chicken, corn on the cob, and mashed potatoes. I know i am totally over my calorie limit for today due to my office buying everyone lunch at the local hot dog shop... but its the weekend.. so I can start planning and maybe get my boyfriend Mike to start dieting with me.. he's overweight too....got the beer belly going at 28yrs old.
And your right, him doing things at home for me does help when he isn't bringing in the money, but its still frusterating.
