What weight should I be?

OK here is an odd question, started at 294lb and this year have moved down to 248lb at a fairly steady rate. (21st to 17st 10lb) So I am heading towards 224lb (16st) this year. I then plan to maintain over Christmas and then start again in the New Year.
I have always been "big" and have been 18st+ for as long as I can remember. So what weight should my "goal" be? BMI would suggest that for my height (5' 11") that I should be under 168lb (12st) I can not even think down that far.
So how do I "know" what weight I should be?

There isn't a One True Number that you should be aiming for.
BMI is a good rough guide, though I think a weight of about 180 would get you near to the top end of its range.
Take it in smaller stages - aim to get under 200, and then reassess how you feel.0 -
BMI is garbage. Instead of aiming for a target weight, use body fat percentage as your guide and goal. If you get your BF% measured, you can use that to approximate your target weight as well.
For instance, I'm currently ~310lbs at 37.5% body fat, which should mean I have about 194 pounds of lean mass. A healthy body fat percentage for a man is around 15%, so 194*1.15 = 223lbs. I currently have my "goal weight" set to 230, and I'll make a more precise evaluation as I get closer to goal.0 -
