Monthly cycle no longer regular??

Wondering if anyone else is having this problem. I started losing weight May 1, I have lost 40 pounds since then. Last month I was late by a day or two. This month so far I am late by 3 days. I feel as though I am going to start any minute, cramping, hungry, moody, blooting, etc but nothing. And there is no way I am prego (trust me I know). I have heard that your cycle can get messed up when you lose alot of weight and start excersising. But this sucks because I feel like crap and feel like if I would just start already I would feel better. Anyone going through this?

I haven't had my period now in a little over 3 months.0

Interestingly enough though.. I was just looking at my weight loss chart and it was the same month I went under 142lbs that my periods stopped. 142lbs used to be my usual bodyweight.0

You've been losing weight since May 1, which is ten weeks ago to the day, and you've lost 40 pounds?
Four pounds a week is too fast to be losing weight unless a lot of it was water weight very early on.
If you're still sustaining 4 pounds a week of weight loss, you may be overdoing it.0 -
Yep, happened to me -- going on four months now.
I've cut back exercise in hopes that it would come back.
I think that our bodies just have to adjust, even if it's at a healthy weight.0 -

My problem was that when I was so overweight, I only had mine about twice a year. Now I can pretty much pinpoint when I start. Although the more weight I lose, the worse PMS I get.0

I had the opposite effect. I only had a cycle 2 times a year as well, I am very overweight and have a bad thyroid disorder, that I am getting treated for now. When I start to lose and exercise, I tend to get my cycle back, not like clockwork, but I do get them more than before.
It is called amenorrhea - an absent period. These are the causes:
You are more likely to have amenorrhea if you:
Are obese
Exercise excessively and for long periods of time
Have less than 15% - 17% body fat
Have severe anxiety or emotional distress
Lose a lot of weight suddenly (for example, with a strict diet or after gastric bypass surgery)
Other causes include:
Brain (pituitary) tumors
Polycystic ovarian syndrome
Premature ovarian failure
Thyroid dysfunction
The following drugs may also cause missed periods:
Busulfan
Chemotherapy drugs for cancer
Chlorambucil
Cyclophosphamide
Phenothiazines
THIS MAY PERTAIN TO YOUR SITUATION :
There is also something called secondary amenorrhea, the causes are:
Breast size changes
Considerable weight gain or weight loss
Discharge from the breast (galactorrhea)
Headache
Increased hair growth in a "male" pattern (hirsutism) and acne
Vaginal dryness
Voice changes

I missed mine when I started running. It's not uncommon when you lose alot of weight. It could also mean you need to slow down a little. I recently got a knee injury so I'm expecting it back any day now.0

Thanks for all the answers I figured it was because I have lost so much weight in such a short period of time. I am sure everything will return to normal when my weight loss slows or I am done losing. Thanks again!0

It's not uncommon when you lose a lot of weight/are an athlete.
I had mine last week, but before that, I didn't have it for a full year, which was about the time I started amping up my exercising and losing weight.0
