Help needed from MFP Gentlemen!

Hey guys,
I am getting married in 4 weeks and have decided to buy my fiancee a pocket watch for a wedding present. He's Scottish and will be wearing a kilt and waistcoat so I think it will be something special he can wear on the day and every time he rocks out his kilt for occasions in the future.
So my question is-do you think I should I get it engraved? Do you think that would make it a more special gift or is it a bit corny and I should let the gift speak for itself?
Your opinions would be greatly appreciated!

My wife did something similar for me with a wrist watch. I never thought it was corny and do think it makes it that more special.0

I know you asked for gentleman but I'll throw my .02 in. Engrave it, but keep it simple.0

I personally would not want it engraved. Just a preference. Mathematically, that watch has a far better chance of surviving beyond the marriage.

Not a guy, but I got my Husband a pocket watch for our 20th anniversay with the cover engraved. He totally loved it.
Not corny at all.
And good luck with your wedding, I hope the weather gods smile on your special day.:flowerforyou:0 -
Corny is good, engraved items like that end up being family heirlooms. (my son borrowed my pocket watch - given to me by my father when I graduated from university - and a pair of my grandfather's cufflinks to wear to his high school formal)0

Engraved, definitely. I had one for years. It's an awesome gift idea. Nothing corny about it at all.0

I used to work at a place that did engraving and have engraved more pocket watches than I can count. Let me tell you, having it engraved is not corny... but there is some serious potential to make it corny by what you put on it. Keep it classy, and don't try to cram a poem on the back.0

IMHO it is just a watch....until you have it engraved to make it "special".
Good luck!!0 -
engraved but keep it short and simple.0

Looks like there's a consensus for engraving it. Thanks everyone!0
