How do they do it?

I am a return user of MFP. I tried to do this a couple of years ago and after 6 months of failure I gave up. Now I am determined to lose this weight but nothing is working. I am not nutrition smart which is one problem and I have very little will power. I logged on to MFP today to try this system again. I am going to try to stay below 1800 calories as a starting point considering I have discovered that I have been eating well over an embarrassing 2700 a day.
I think having a support person who isn't directly connected to you is key so if there is anyone out there that is looking for a challenge and wants to help me get on track I would appreciate all the advice I can get. :ohwell:

Welcome back I'm a returning user as well and have reading all the different blogs and things have helped me tons with new exercises. I have started riding a bike and even trying to become a jogger still not up on that. It takes alot of dedication and some motivation but you have to do it for you I recently had a heart attack at 40 and that woke me up. Feel free to add me if you like I'll help with anything I can. Good luck you got this!0

Are you able to exercise? Getting into a gym routine can really help you to stay on track.0

People do it by taking it one day at a time. People try, and sometimes they fail, but they keep trying. They create a group of friends to cheer them on when they do well, and to find support from when they are struggling. You can do it, but it won't be overnight, and you won't get to eat as much as maybe you want to, and that will be no fun at first, but eventually you get used to it. You can be one of those people too. You've taken the first step, by returning. Good luck! Friend request sent.0

Thanks for your encouraging words. I hope you are in better health now. I think since turning 40 myself I can't get weight loss out of my mind because of thoughts of heart attack and stroke. I will take you up on your offer and add you as a friend. As i mentioned I think everyone needs someone to talk to who struggles with the same issues outside of their immediate friends and family. Looking forward to many chats in the future!0
