Adding a kitten...

To our already 4 cat family. We got a kitten about 10 years ago, then decided he needed a friend, so we got another cat, a girl, now approx 10. Our 3rd cat found us now approx 9, as well as the 4th, well sort of. She rode over, 2 miles, on my Mom's battery! She made it without a scratch. The way I figure it, it I feed them and they come back..off to the vet they go and, assuming they are healthy, they become part of the family. Well I had to take one cat to the vet and there were 7 kittens for adoption. I fell in love with one of them, a week and a half ago, and can't get her off my mind. We went to the beach last week so i wasn't able to get her then. I as seriously thinking about getting her..assuming she is still there :frown: Any suggestions on adding a kitten to adult cats? Thank you in advance

So that will put you at 5 cats....hmmmm....halfway to becoming a crazy cat lady. When my sister hit the number 10 is when I officially decided we'd lost her to the feline world forever. She's up to 26 now and would probably have more if the 4 dogs didn't distract her.

Yes, 5 cats! I just love my kitties! Each one has a different personality. We had a dog, but she passed a couple of months ago:cry: . We also have 2 guinea pigs...my daughters. If you ask my family I am a bit crazy, so why not be a crazy cat lady? :ohwell: 26 is a bit much though!

My goal is to eventually become the crazy cat lady. I have always had cats in my life. When I'm old and in the nursing home I will be the crazy lady hiding the cat under my bed!

As for introducing a kitten to adult cats, I have never had an issue. My older cats were usually so used to my craziness that they took everything in stride and just went with it. We did foster a cat for a bit and that was a bit intense at first. What you can do is have the kitten stay in a bathroom or bedroom so they can get used to the new surroundings. The older cats will know that a new kitty is there and have a chance to sniff it out. Slowly introduce the kitten to the family. Hold the kitty and let the others sniff her out. After about a week or so they should at least be somewhat used to each other. Just make sure you have lots of toys because in my experience the older cats do not like having a kitten trying to play with them

Good luck! Getting a new kitty is so much fun! I want a kitten so badly but the zoo is temporarily closed in our house. Maybe in a couple of years!
