Friendships

Friendships.....doesn't matter who they are with, male or female, where or when.....

Question - how do you form them? Because I'm at a loss - I have so many conflicting views and opinions.

We'll break them down into groups -

!) Close / Best Friends - the people I regard as knowing the most about you and who gives you the most support.
2) Friends in General - people who know enough about you but don't know everything - the ones you can still laugh, cry with but you wouldn't completely divulge your problems with.
3) Friends / Associates - Mainly people you know in passing, don't know much about each other, but say hi to regularly, have conversation with if bumped into them in the street or knew them from your work,, residential street, social hang outs etc.

MFP Friends - Lets throw this into the mix - how many would fall into which of the above categories? I'm more interested with the category aspect.

I'll be honest - I lknow a lot of people - but they fall within the environment of work, and some of those people are regarded as friends (probably in number 2 category, given my circumstances).
Other people I know under the "work" environment would fall into category 3 - I see them most days if not every day but they don't really know me.
I have 1 Best Female Friend I have known for 21 years who lives back in my hometown 80 miles away - I see her about 3 times a year and speak probably 1 x month given our lifestyles (she is older but we share a lot in common).
I do not socialise, therefore no "drinking buddies" not that I drink much anyway - but no-one to say, F it, lets go get rat arsed just once in a while.
My Ex I still live with (I will be moving out when able to financially) - we still get on very well, can talk about everything (pretty much), given our lifestyle, we don't go out much, but if we wanted we could go for a meal or drink. He would fall into the Best Friend CAtegory still.

MfP - I have a number of "friends" on my list - but there's probably only a couple whom I would say fall into Category 2 but otherwise the rest would fall into Category 3 - no offense to anyone on my list btw. lol

I need to know that I have got my views right? Anyone agree with the Groups - is there anything, I've left out?

How long does it take you to get to KNOW someone under each of the relevant groups.

Overall question is - How the hell do you form friendships - cos I'm at a loss. Have you thought someone was in a particular group category to find their not but in a different one. Or are my views completely jaded?

Hope you can shed some light.
