I've been reading that we need to be taking Fish oil to get your Omega 3's. Can I use flax seed instead? it doesn't 'burp' back up...

It not ideal
Flax seed is APA (alpha lineolic acid, probably spelt that wrong but it was from memory) which has to be converted in the body to omega 3 and the body is actually not that efficient at this process.
Fish oil is a far superior source of omega 3 as it is already in the correct state, if you're having trouble taking it then get the gel caps as opposed to the oil itself.0 -
What Hendrix said! I use gel caps and don't get the fishy burps. I actually use Krill Oil as it is a little more shelf stable.0
