Hi. I am following the food pyramid and trying to get 2 and half cups of fruit a day. But just having a half cup puts me more than half way over my sugar allocation. What am I supposed to do? Should I worry or let it go since it is sugar from fruit?

Thanks.

Rhonda

um... whose allocation? mfp? pffft.... I changed the allocations to my own... we all are different.
I had cut my sugar... yes i kept my sugar to no more than 9g per 100 cal. Did I eat fruit? yup... yes I know the sugar is higher... but tis fruit... and is different. When in moderation it's fine. MODERATION. During weightloss I had 2 1/2 servings of fruit a day... n hey... I am NO LONGER on 170 units of insulin...and dropped the weight...

I think it depends who you listen to - my theory is that if I'm getting fruit from sugar, veggies, dairy (no added sugar) etc then I'm happy to take the sugar as it is accompanied by all kinds of good nutrients, fibre, minerals etc.

Aussie guidelines suggest 5 veg and 2 fruit each day which I think is a pretty good balance to get lots of great nutrients without going too far overboard with cals and sugar. Having said that, if fruit is an alternative to cakes or processed snacks - then I think it's a good choice.

I eat two to three pieces of fruit everyday. Love it. Won't give it up. But I don't eat sugar from other sources such as table sugar, candy, chocolate, cakes, etc.

This was helpful. I have been WAY over on my sugar every day but I eat things like bananas, nonfat milk, etc. By adding that column to my chart-thing so I can see it everyday, I have been made aware of how many things have sugar that you wouldn't expect - and how much sugar is in some things! It's a lot. I can't say that I think artificial sugar is the way to go but even yesterday, I took an Emergen-C and it had 5g! Shocking!
