I have been training for a while now with an overall 13lb weight loss in 7 weeks, after realising i originally wasnt eating enough and my body was in starvation mode thus not recovering properly after muscle workouts. I was advised to eat majority of my exercise caloires back and the normal 1200 to sustain which i have done now for the past week. however, i have had a sudden increse in my weight putting 3lbs back on in about 5 days, i assume this sudden weight increase is from my body still storing calories and not yet got itself out of starvation mode? has anyone else had this? and how long will it be until my weight starts dropping again instead of increasing?

I am having the same problem. It is very frustrating and de-motivating. I have been using My Fitnesspal for two weeks now, and have been very honest when recording my calorie intake into the diary. I now realise that I was in fact not eating enough calories previously so how long does it take for my body to come out of starvation mode and actually start losing weight? I really don't want to get any bigger! Does anybody have any advice please

    1. Starvation mode doesn't exist, at least not in the way that you're describing it. It will never stop you losing weight or make you put on weight, it can only potentially slow your weight loss down if you get to a point where you're actually close to starving to death. http://www.aworkoutroutine.com/starvation-mode/

    2. Weight loss isn't linear - some weeks you'll lose, some you'll stay the same, some you'll gain. People can fluctuate 3lbs from one day to the next, too. Just keep going, 5 days is nowhere near long enough to know how you're doing yet. So don't worry, just stick with it! :)

Starvation mode exists, but it isn't what you think it is. It is highly unlikely that you were in starvation mode. 13 lbs in 7 weeks is fairly reasonable. But if all you are doing is eating at 1200 and replacing your exercise calories, your weight gain is not from fat.
