Need to lose lbs and tone up?

How do you accomplish this? Because I have done a few days of strength training with resistance bands and saw the scale go up... I really want to lose weight and tone up. What is the best way to do this?

It's usually best to give up if you try something for a 'few days' and don't get the results you want.

no, but seriously, how do you feel about serious/in gym strength training?

First off I'm not giving up, just wanted to see if anyone out there went through this and how the went about achieveing the same goal. I want to do this right! So I don't appreciate your sarcasm. I speak it fluently!

    With that said...
I don't have time to go to the gym I work full time, I have a two year old, and I'm a full time wife! However we do have a bench and weights and all the dumbbells I could need at our home. I also have my stationary bike, resistance bands, yoga blocks, etc.

Nuts, I was going to suggest a progressive strength training program.
Maybe you would do really well with something like 'You are your own gym.'

When you incorporate resistance training, expect some weight fluctuation. It's mostly just water.

I drink a ton a water. Usually 5-6 20oz bottles a day! I am struggling to get the last of the weight I gained during pregnancy and then some off. I have been trying for a while. I have some medical issues that make it that much harder! I'm going to stick to it though because I know it will work. I can feel a difference in my body already as far as how my clothes are fitting me and well how sore I am lol!

I'm using Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred. I ordered my DVD on Amazon, she has lots of great workout videos! I am a single mom of a 4 year old, and I work full time as well. Her video is only 20 mins long, but a KILLER lol, so I usually do it as soon as I put my girl down to bed at night. Google it, check out the results! I've only been doing it for 4 days, I gained 3 lbs at first but it's gone this morning. I think you are probably going to gain at first because you are gaining muscle, while burning fat, so just because the svale doesn't move, or goes up, you are losing inches. Try measuring yourself, continue your strength training, or try 30 Day Shred, and measure yourself in a couple weeks. I'm sure you'll see a difference :)

What do you use as your calorie burn in MFP?

Someone on here somewhere showed how to calculate your calorie burn for 30DS. And if you choose "circuit training, general", almost everyone who replied was only off by 1 calorie. So I use that, right now, at 195lbs I burn 235. It'll be more or less, weather your heavier or lighter.

Pretty well everyone gains a little when they start lifting. Initially, it is water weight and will go away.

From my understanding, the weight training causes tiny, microscopic tears in the muscle tissue. Your body pulls water to these areas to aid in fixing the tears (this is how you get stronger). For most people, it takes a good bit of time before they start to build significant enough muscle to add muscle weight, but, if you lift heavy enough and regularly enough, you will likely also, eventually, gain a little muscle weight. Remember, though, muscle weighs more than fat per unit of volume. (If you don't say that right on here, people jump all over you! Basic idea is that a cup of muscle tissue weighs more than a cup of fat.)

Over time, the weight training will help you to burn off more calories. It will also help you keep skin firmer, etc.

Keep going and you will be happy that you did.
