How much protein should I be eating?

Hi guys,

This has probably been done to the death a million times before, but truth be told I'm a little stuck. MFP says that I should be eating 40g of protein per day. To me, this seems a little low, particularly as:

a) I work out quite often (between 4 and 6 days a week)

b) I regularly go over 40g anyway, without even trying.

I've read lots of differing opinions on protein. I'm currently running every alternate day and doing 30DS every day. (Well.....ahem....nearly every day). Should I try and up my protein in order to see more results? I wouldn't mind seeing a leaner reflection staring back at me. Or am I eating enough anyway? I'm currently eating between 40 - 60g a day. What are everyone's thoughts on protein shakes?
