Can't is a choice

I had my two boys strapped in the double jogging stroller while taking our dog on a walk this morning (like usual). Only it started to drizzle and so I had to hurry and get back home. I started running and while the baby was asleep and oblivious, my 3 1/2 year old was so excited to be moving fast. Problem was that I was not dressed properly for running (let's just say the 'girls' were not probably supported) and it's been so long since I've run at all. A minute or two in and I had to take a walking break.

My son said, "Mommy run!" to which I replied, "I can't".

Then I thought about what I had just told my son and what a terrible lesson that was. I don't want him thinking it's ok to say, "I can't". So I told him that Mommy was wrong. That can't is a choice. I started running again and made it back home.

Who knew a preschooler could be so thought provoking.
