I eat 50g of sunflower seeds daily at 10h30-11h30. Like clockwork.

And I eat breakfast too, there's no link I find, I'm still hungry at 11 anyway too. So I eat, and this is filling enough :) When I get to lunch I'm usually not really hungry, or barely hungry, which is perfect I find :) Fruits snack at around 3 and my work day is over!

I tried to fight it for a while, in a weird attempt to "save" calories for the evening, but I'm not even hungry anymore on the evenings it seem, so this works just perfect!

Sunflower seeds, that's my trick :p

I would experiment and find out what works for you. There is no right way. Leangains and Intermittent Fasting has helped me stop feeling hungry all the time and I no longer binge (used to binge weekly).

    Experiment it is!

Thanks everyone, lots of great advice :).

You should have a morning tea snack between breakfast and lunch!
Piece of fruit and a big glass of water!

PS One of my fave things now is if I work out in the cool of the evening after dinner? I do a protein snack or my fave, protein smoothee before bed because they say that it will help repair and rebuild muscle while I sleep, yeehaw!!

I've been a morning workout kind of gal my whole life, but my schedule prevents it right now so Ive moved to the evenings - I love it! No more groggy workouts. I've been relying on the usually very protein heavy dinners I have before to fuel me, but an evening smoothie is a great idea :).

I'm sure this has been brought up before. Most days I get breakfast, but some days I forget. Because of the studies done on the subject I'm somewhat fanatical about getting breakfast, even if I'm not hungry (which is often). Eating breakfast seems to have no effect on my hunger levels - either way, I want a meal at 11. I do feel a little more energetic on days that I eat something, but it still feels like kind of a waste of calories, particularly because I'm normally a big fan of the eating when hungry thing.

Anyone else experience this? Should I keep eating in the am anyways? Or eat a tiny breakfast? Or give in and skip it? If you're in favor of not eating breakfast (I know some of you are), do you know of any studies on the subject?

so off off the subject but I lover your ticker quote.

I eat small AM meal then a big breakfast after my workout. I eat the light AM meal b/c I need the energy and you're supposed to eat breakfast but you also have to listen to your body and I'm not very hungry in the mornings. I usually eat a granola thin and either yogurt or banana when I'm on my way home from my bus runs right before my workout (I work out right after my 4-hr morning shift). But I'm a grazer...several small meals and snacks throughout the day... For me, I listen to my body more than anything. I've kept my weight off over 20yrs so my body knows what its doing...

If you're hungry at 11, why not try eating lunch THEN instead of later and instead of snacking? I eat breakfast EVERY DAY (I DO think it's important, contrary to what some other people seem to think..) at 7 a.m. and end up getting hungry around 11 or 11:30 ... so I just eat lunch early. Then I usually have a protein shake / snacks mid-afternoon and we don't have dinner til around 7. You have to find out what works for YOU, for sure ... but I have ALWAYS been and will always be a huge advocate for making sure you DO eat breakfast! ((I was a coffee-only "breakfast" person for years, and when I switched to eating a 300-400 calorie breakfast it was the BEST thing I have ever done!))

Good for you! I'm working to get to that point. Some days I'm pretty sure my body and I speak different languages, and listen as I might it just doesn't translate :P. Other days we get each other. I agree that feeding your body what it wants is the best plan.

If you want to help your energy levels, but dont want the calories.. have a protein shake! 90 calories! (i add fruit to make a smoothie for a total of 180 cals)

I CANNOT eat in the morning.. the thought of it makes me want to vomit.. so this works for me. and i have to say, i HAVE noticed a HUGE difference in my energy level after i started having them! =) Good luck!

I eat a large breakfast around 8am and I'm usually hungry by 11am, so I eat my lunch then. The kids are hungry by then too, even if they have a snack in between meals, so moving the lunch hour up to 11 works for us.

you're supposed to eat every few hours to keep your metabolism up, the reason for eating breakfast is to jumpstart your metabolism and start producing energy and burning calories...
I skipped breakfast a lot because I didn't have time and was groggy and wasn't awake until I would eat something.
breakfast is supposed to be the larges meal of the day, followed by lunch and dinner the smallest with 1 or 2 snacks in between.

I got this recipe for a breakfast shake from the New Rules of Lifting for Women book and it keeps me full untill about 12-1 (I drink it around 8:30 on my way to school) and it's a great way to start your day with protein and all the goods! it gives me a ton of energy as well.

Here's the recipe for a high protein, yummy bfast (or whenever) shake.
1/2 cup of old fashioned oats (make sure you get old fashioned, otherwise they will be highly processed and you will be missing the nutrients)
1 scoop of whey proetin (I use strawberry or vanilla, body fortress brand from walmart)
    1 c skim milk
1 tbsp of all natural no stir peanut butter (I use the bees knees brand, they also have different flavors like white chocolate and are way better than any other natural PB)
BE SURE TO BLEND WELL!! THE OATS ARE HARDER TO GROUND AND YOU END UP WITH SOME CHUNKS OF THEM IF NOT. i put those in last so they're closer to the blade so they get chopped up first...works great.

    enjoy :)

Normally I just have coffee in the morning or some milk, but if I eat breakfast I am starving by noon. I think its because your metabolism is being stimulated earlier in the day. I think you should eat breakfast, and then if you are hungry later on just have a snack like a protein bar or a greek yogurt. Hope this helps :)

    What are you eating?

If I eat carbs for breakfast, then yes I feel hungry after oatmeal, cereal, toast, etc.

but I don't feel hungry if I have protein like eggs, egg whites, omelet, turkey sausage, veggies with my protein, etc.

Eat, but make sure you are eating food that hold you. Also do not limit yourself to breakfast foods. If you aren;t a breakfast food eater, eat what you like.

None of that is true. There are lots of links to articles supporting the statements made.

I eat breakfast every day, whether I'm hungry or not. I read an article that reminded me: when you skip breakfast and wait until around lunch to eat, it means you haven't eaten for about 14 hours. Can't be good for your metabolism. There's nothing wrong with eating, as long as you watch your portions and try to eat healthy.

If I eat breakfast, I feel sick because I'm never hungry till about 11.30am and I've stuffed food in when I wasn't hungry, I'm hungry all day and I easily eat way more calories than my daily allowance. So now I skip breakfast and eat when I'm hungry. All my meals are big though. I cannot do small meals; I need to feel full. So far its working beautifully for me. It doesn't matter what time you eat your meals. :flowerforyou:

I used to never eat breakfast but then it clicked....I've also always been fat. So now, even though I'm not hungry, I'll still at least have a apple, piece of toast, or something very small and simple. Just anything to get your metabolism up and kickin. After that, you'r going to be hungry because your metabolism is in full speed so your burning more calories therefore you need eat more often. For this reason I've resorted to eating 6 times a day. Each time a relatively small amount and it's worked wonders!!! I suggest just maybe not eating so much first thing in the am, just a very light snack then have your "breakfast" at 11 when you really want it. HOpe it all pans out for you. Everybody is different, you just have to expiremnt to find what way works best for you.

I have an aunt who has never been heavy in her entire 70 something life. She swears by eating light meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) and two small snacks (one at 11:00am, which she sweetly calls "elevensies", and the other either before or after dinner, depending on her day). Sandwiches for her always consist of a single slice of bread, and anything she eats is just a small amount. She's very active, taking care of her house, huge flower and food garden, 2 horses, a few cats and her helpful husband.

I can't go without eating breakfast, even if I wake up not feeling hungry. I know that if I don't eat it, I'll regret it later in one form or another--hungry/grouchy/feeling faint, or I'll overeat due to feeling too hungry. I hope I was able to offer some ideas for you here.

I eat 5-6 meals a day. I always eat breakfast whether it's usually a protein smoothie, a glass of kefir or 2 eggs. I then eat a snack about 2 hours later and then lunch about 2 hours after that. I space my mid-afternoon snack and dinner a little farther apart.

To me, I think better when I eat breakfast and I'm less prone to irritability and brain fog from low blood sugar. What you eat for breakfast does have a bearing on how soon you are hungry again afterward. If I eat eggs for breakfast and don't add cheese to them, I'm hungry fairly soon. High carb breakfasts leave me hungry and my blood sugar spikes. So I try to get enough protein and fat to stay satisfied for a few hours. Then I usually have fruit for a mid-morning snack.

I flex with my snacks, not my full meals.

It's also clear who has done any amount of reading on nutrition and metabolism vs who repeats whatever they hear.

I'm never hingry first thing either. I eat later on in the morning - around 10-ish. I've noticed from MFP that my biggest calories are consumed between 10am and 6pm. I'm losing weight so that's all I care about.

Breakfast does not kick start you're metabolism.

    Eat when you are hungry.

Cals in vs out is what matters most.

If you are eating in the morning because someone told you it was good for weight loss and you're not actually hungry then you're just using up some of you're daily cals unnecessarily.

Many types of intermittent fasting involve skipping breakfast (& some more).
