Do you Walking to Post office on Exercise?

I make it a point not to take public transportation and walk around.

It takes me about 15minutes EACH way to walk to the post office.

Would you ADD this to your EXERCISE diary or not?

I ask because the calories per day is used if I sat down all day....so walking is more than that right?

I log when I walk to the grocery store which is a little less than 10 mins away. So I log the whole trip as 15 mins. If that's the only exercise that day I don't log it, but if I walk for an hour plus that, I log it as 75 mins of walking.

To me it depends on if you selected "active" or "sedentary" when figuring out your calorie needs. If you selected "active" I would think that would be included in that and I would not log it. If you selected "sedentary" then I would count it.

I'm sedentary so i log walks if longer then 10 minuts. I am trying to estimate my real TDEE and logging all activities is the only way to do it...

I've pondered this as well. I work froml home and sit at a desk aaallll day long. So, yes, if I spend more time grocery shopping that day, or decide to run down to the post office instead of driving, I totally log it.

Does this walk make your heart rate go up? Do you sweat for a sustained period of time? If not, then no don't add. For me personally I wouldn't...for example the closest mail box to me is a half mile away. I usually walk to it, and I usually just stroll along at around 2, 2.5 mph. No change to my heart rate, no sweat. On the other hand, when I walk for exercise, it's 4.5-5mph, my heart rate goes up, and I break a continuous sweat.

I log walking if the total time is 20 mins+ as I am set at BMR not TDEE so yes i would log it  I also don't take the bus whenever possible so shopping trips into town are really quite a workout.

    Yes, this.

I have selected sedentary (which I mostly am as I sit all day at work) and I log all of my exercise. 15 minutes is about the length of walk I'd add. 10 minutes or less I don't bother. I also take the stairs at work if I'm going 2 up or 3 down, but I don't bother to log that either. It only happens a few times a day.

However, if I knew I was doing that kind of thing regularly, I'd probably set myself as lightly active and then I wouldn't bother.

I agree, it's to do with what level of activity you set! Mine is sedentary so anything over ten minutes of walking I count.

I only log my 'scheduled' activity as exercise, but that is probably not very accurate and I should log other activities as well.

I would consider a 15 minute walk to the post office something worth logging.

I choose SEDENTARY.....because I work from home. Though I get up every 15min (I try as a rule) to break up the sitting time....I dont MOVE at all.

    So thanks for the comments!

I think I will add anything 15+ since my calories is based on sitting all day!

    :-)
