Grr. Argh. I know that there are many variables with the scale, BUT, according to MyFitnessPal and my Fitbit:
Week of 6/22: (before my Fitbit) Weight 155 ----
Week of 6/29-7/5: Burned 13,916, ate 10,852, deficit 3,064 = weight 156
Week of 7/6-12: Burned 13,835, ate 9,958, deficit 3,877 = weight 158
So the last two weeks, Burned 27,751, ate 20,810, deficit of 6,941 = gain of 2 pounds (3, if you count the pre-Fitbit weight)
Sigh.

Have you been working out? (Can make you retain water weight.)
Do you use a food scale for accurate calorie counting?
Does FitBit have a percentage accuracy range that isn't spot on for everyone?0 -
Did you measures yourself?
Did you take pictures?0 -
I just figured this was a thread dedicated to me. :grumble:0

Not everything is about you Brett.0 -
MaraDiaz and Yanicka1-I have been formally working out for the first time in years, and I'm trying to do something everyday, even if it's just a walk. As a matter of fact, this is the most active I've ever been in my whole life! The Fitbit is supposed to be pretty accurate (95-97% for step counting) with the margin of error being UNDERcounting, so I don't think it's that... I do use a food scale, so I think I'm pretty accurate there, too. I've heard that I might be actually gaining a teeeny bit of muscle mass because of the drastic change in activity, and that muscles retain water while healing, so that's possible. I haven't measured myself recently, but I have some measurements and pictures from back in March, so once I find a tape measure, I can compare, sort of.
BrettPGH- lol why?0 -
Oh, and I forgot to say that once I got my Fitbit, I found out that my TDEE was significantly lower than I expected! Usually only between 1800-1900!0

It's possible your gaining muscle, since it is heavier than fat.0

ummm...pretty sure a pound of fat is the same as a pound of muscle. It's just that muscle takes up less space that a pound of fat. lol
It is possible though that you are retaining water like crazy. Don't get to wrapped up in the scale though. It can fluctuate like crazy, it's just part of how our bodies work. Try cutting down on your sodium intake and if you need to, take a rest day. I find that if I work out too hard and don't take rest days that I retain water like crazy and I gain, but as long as I take my rest days and don't over do it then I don't retain as much.
Also, take measurements to help measure your progress. At least then if the scale isn't your friend then you'll still see that you're making progress and it'll help keep you motivated.0 -
I have to take diuretics, so I'm not actually sure how that affects overall water-retention, such as muscle-healing. Anybody else know?0

Hmmm...that's a good question. My youngest son has been on them for most of his life. Thankfully, he's currently off of them. I'm not sure how that would affect it, but you could give your doctor a call and see what they say.0 -
The same thing is happening to me. I'm older than you with a hypo-thyroid, exercising, wearing a fitbit, staying somewhat under calories and my scale has inched up. I'm just trying to plug along and hope that eventually everything kicks in.0

Cari4jc1- I"m glad he can be off of them for awhile! Does he have trouble keeping his potassium at safe levels, too?
Thinteacher-, I'm hypo-thyroid, too! Great bodies think alike??? Lol!0 -
Same here, rowdy. I started a new workout routine and I know that's why. Stick with it. I just re-read this blurb when I wonder if it's working. It always 'comes out in the wash' for me in the past. We've got a whoosh in our future.

Hooray for whooshes!0

I am going to also say I think it's due to muscle water retention. Somebody had posted an excellent thread about this. Basically, your muscles retain water to help cushion and protect them while healing. Talk to your doctor about it though because I don't know how your medication would effect it.0
