I'm confused...yesterday I stuck to my calories and did a very challenging hour long pilates workout. Today I am up a pound! People will say your weight fluctuates blah blah but that is not how my body usually works. So what gives? How unmotivating!

well if you have been doing pilates regularly you could have gained some muscle. and muscle weighs more than fat... that's my only thought.0

Sorry but it's true, weight fluctuates. And it's not muscle. It takes months of weight lifting to build muscle. To see a difference in your weight because of it you would have to be really serious on your eating and workouts.
One pound is nothing to be worried about. Keep eating right and exercising. This is a long term commitment not a quick fix.

I find when I have had a good work out I gain a pound or so. Yesterday, I worked hard with the weights. I kept within my calories too but I was up a pound today. I know that tomorrow it will be back down. Although mathematically MFP shows you what you should lose, my body isn't very good at math:laugh:0

I am NOT a proponent of weighing daily, or even weekly for that matter. Weight fluctuates, whether we like it or not, for many reasons, including fluids in the intestines, fluids in cells (think muscles after a workout), additional bloat from salt, accumulated waste, etc.
It is doubtful that you've gained a pound of muscle in a week, let alone a day, however strength training definitely causes our muscles to hold fluids so that could account for the change.
Don't let the scale rule your feelings of success. If you are following your calories, and working out, you have to be moving in the right direction. The scale often takes days or weeks to catch up.

Hi I am up and down 1-2 pounds everyday but by the end of the week I will see a 2-5 pound loss. Just don't get caught up in weighing yourself daily. I am guilty of it too but I only take the scale seriously once a week. By the way I got super fast results with pilates like within a week! I love it
feeling muscles my muscles lengthen is heaven!

Thanks everyone. Yes I will stick with it and hopefully see a difference over a week's time. And I agree-the way pilates makes your muscles feel is addictive!
Regarding weighing yourself every day or not, I've heard conflicting advice. A few well respected studies have said people who way themselves daily are the most consistent in keeping weight off after a big loss.
Since I have been known to gain 5 lbs w/o even blinking I am definitely going to keep my daily weigh ins.0
