How to keep it off?

I am back on the weight loss path again and I don't want to have to do it again. I realize this is a lifestyle choice and all but what am I going to have to do to keep it off once I'm there? How often will I have to exercise, and will I be able to eat the foods I would like to as long as I limit the portion?

I'm not there at keeping it off yet, but my guess is you would adjust your calorie intake to maintaining, and don't eat over those calories. And if you want a healthy lifestyle, exercise is a must. I have ice - cream once in a great while as long as I watch my portions and don't go over my calories.

According to the database that tracks this sort of thing (I forget the site), regular exercise, an average of 1 hr or more per day, is the most common thread among those who lost a lot and maintaned that loss for years afterwards.

It is said that losing weight is 80% diet. On the flipside keeping it off is 80% exercise.

The blunt statistic is that approx 95% of all people who lose weight in the United States put it back on again.

How to avoid doing this is pretty obvious imo:

Don't make any changes in order to lose weight that you don't want to continue doing for the rest of your life.

In other words, don't bother denying yourself foods unless you want to quit them forever, just eat them in moderation. Don't hit the gym seven days a week unless you want to continue doing that forever...

Small, sustainable changes now... small sustainable changes forever.
