Too much sugars - but why??

OK I am new here so please forgive me being a bit of a divvey. But I have the Biggest Loser shakes for breakfast, and Soups for lunch, followed by a healthy dinner at night - veggies, chicken, pasta, and I snack a little on fruit. Yet for some reason my sugar mg level is ALWAYS nearly twice what it should be. All the other stuff is pretty good, and rarely in the 'red', I often show as having too few calories as well, it's the sugar one letting me down every time. Also, if I have a Slim-fast shake the sugar levels are even higher. Soooooo any ideas on how to cut them down?? Without starving myself?

Your diary is private so this is a shot in the dark....are you eating a lot of processed foods (along with the slim-fast, biggest lose shakes etc.)?
Processed items like that tend to have a good amount of added sugar.
If you need sweets, stick to your fruit (maybe 3 servings) and see what your numbers are.0 -
Two words: fruit and milk.
Fruit is high in fructose (Latin for fruit sugar) and milk is high in lactose (Latin for milk sugar).
Unless you have diabetes or some other metabolic disorder, it's no big deal.0 -
Your diary is private so it's hard for us to see where it is coming from or figure out how to address your concerns.0

This is what I would change about your diet.
I would have a slow carb in the morning, such as old fashioned oats, combined with a protein, such as 3 egg whites mixed with 1 whole egg.
I would have your fruit as a mid morning snack, around 10 a.m. and skip the fruit all together in the evening.
I would ditch all the liquid drinks and only get your calories from actual solids.
For lunch do a protein (chicken, fish, turkey) with a slow digesting carb (brown rice for example) and your favorite veggies.
Have an afternoon snack such as 10-12 almonds or 1 oz of seeds or a 4 oz greek yogurt.
Finish dinner by duplicating lunch, stay away from the fruit.0 -

As others said, it's difficult to tell without being able to see your diary.
My guess is that the shake is full of sugar. People are still stuck on "low fat" so that's how things are marketed - unfortunately, they usually add sugar to make up the taste (since removing fat makes it bland).
Your body does NOT treat every calorie the same - ignore that Simpsons board post. You're smart to be watching the sugar.0 -
LOL!
Yes, have your daily calories in butter! You will lose weight!
You may feel like crap, but the weight will drop off!0 -
I guess those convenience processed shake meals probably have to have lots of added sugar just to make them palatable. :sick:0

Exactly.
A nutritionally balanced diet will give you all the sugars you need as well as other nutrients that your body will crave within your caloric needs.
The processed crap, that is usually caloric dense and nutritionally out of balanced, will leave you prone to binging and that's when people get fat.0 -
WOW!!! All I can say is thanks for all the positive responses, certainly has made me think! First thing I am gonna do is not make my diary private. Some of the things I am eating I have 'created' myself so might be of help to others. Marmite chicken anyone :laugh:0

MFP actually calculates your sugar intake based on a recommendation of ADDED sugars. As in, adding a tbs of sugar to your morning tea or whatnot, or what's in a soda, etc. It's actually not supposed to count what occurs naturally in foods such as fruit. So basically... MFP is kinda doing it wrong since it counts everything, regardless of whether it's processed sugar or naturally occurring. Check the sugars in your processed foods and don't intentionally add it to anything and you should, barring a medical condition, be totally fine if you're going over your sugars because you ate some fruit or something in that nature. I mean, assuming you're not just chowing down on sugar cane all day long or something, haha!0
