what to do when you hate "working out"

So can you not try yoga again because of your back? Did you have a careless teacher or what?
If you like yoga and just the style or teacher contributed to your injury, once you heal, you could always try a video, a new studio, a new teacher, or new style. Right?
the yoga i was doing at home with a video, and i thought i was ok because i'd had classes before, but i strained my back...not bad until my belly dance teacher (unintentionally, but carelessly) grabbed my hips and yanked to get me swinging wider...a week later...on the couch in agonizing pain. it's better now, but i'm pain-shy
i have been thinking i'll try the yoga again, carefully, and see what happens.0 -
I suck it up and do it anyways....cause I chose to be healthy..so I find something that will keep me moving, take the dog for a walk, play with your kids, put on music and dance..A lot of work out regimens are not required with machines only...Walking is always a good start or ride a bike instead of driving to the grocery store, you will be amazed of how many things we missed from our neighborhood because we are always driving, even if is not the greatest neighborhood.. The point at the end is the same, you want to be healthy, you gotta chose to be healthy; therefore, you find ways to be healthy and you do it no matter what..No excuses..!!0

When I first started I would dread getting up to work out...frustrated being out of shape, used to sedentary ways, etc. A couple of things worked for me: pick the same time every day . Make it routine. For me it was first thing in the morning. I'm able to work out at home and I just decided I'd do best getting it done right away so I'd be less likely to talk myself out of it later in the day. I started with a treadmill, so I put on the t.v. and used it to preoccupy my mind as well as set small goals like "I'll run 'til the commercial," etc. I jotted down every workout in a small notebook...still do! And I made it non-negotiable. That is probably the most effective thing I did. No matter what, the rule was work out every day except Sunday. It takes a few weeks to become a regular habit, but it's really worth sticking it out. Now I am very regular about working out, but I've varied what I do considerably, am able to motivate myself later in the day, don't really use the t.v. at all. It truly gets easier as you get stronger and fitter. Nothing feels better than that.0

Its all about mindset. If you think its gonna be tough, you workout will be tough. Your body follows you mind. Get your mind in the right place, your body will follow.
this is 99% of my problem. i always told myself i could only find motivation if it was something i enjoyed - and sure, it's an excuse, but when i found things i enjoyed, i did them - lots. way more than forcing myself to "work out" in the living room.
the stationary bike isn't so bad now ;o) i just have to work on enjoying other things.0 -
Running is my thing but I recently started playing tennis too to break it up. I'd look into a sport of some kind, the skating sounds good too!0
-
If you are doing the stationary bike then start riding a bike outdoors. Cycling is the greatest exercise because its easy on the joints and never gets boring as the scenery always changes.0

I don't particularly enjoy working out in any manner.
I'd much rather be like my cats and lay in bed all day, occasionally changing positions and only getting up to eat and poop.
Unfortunately, I'm human so I can't do that. Instead I just tell myself that I'm exercising to avoid any problems that would give me less free time.
I love my free time.0 -
If you're ok dancing, have you tried brazilian dancing? There are some good dvd's which means you can do it in your lounge (you don't need a lot of space)0

i've never looked into it, but i'll check it out! i love to dance, but i'm a horrible klutz with two left feet, so i prefer not to do it in public
>.<
living room dancing is excellent, though!0 -
lifting, pilates, running, surfing, hiking, sailing, walking, biking, jumping rope, jumping or leaping (don't laugh, it's f-ing hard), skateboarding, or just move constantly. Take all your furniture and TV and throw it away, and don't allow sitting.0

So, I hate running! Always have..even when I was at my goal weight!! But I was able to make a trade on craigslist. I had a small boat that they wanted and they had a wii. what I wanted. I bought the zumba wii game and I love it!! I unfortunately am so out of shape and like you, have a bad knee..but I do it at the low intensity and I can survive. I have never taken a Zumba class but when finances and me being more confident in my body, I will definitely take one!! I usually just start off with pilates..yoga,,,stretching,,and walking...Good luck!0

Get a Fitbit and work on increasing your NEAT.

How about a martial art? Killer workout. If not into a class, how about training at home on a heavy bag? I love it - work out your frustrations, burn calories put on some high energy music and KILL the calories. Doing it after dinner tonight!0

little things like doing squats while you wait for the shower to heat up, keeping hand weights next to where you watch TV, parking as far as possible away from the store so you have to walk. Walking the dog instead of just letting him run in the yard ... that sort of thing.
If you have any nice bridges to walk over, that's one of my favorite things to do
mowing the lawn without the power drive on so you HAVE to push and pull all on your own. Raking leaves, shoveling snow.0 -
You figure out specifically what you hate and then find alternatives. Gyms just rob me of any desire to work out, I can't explain it. I can be super excited, then walk in the door and BOOM I just want to leave. For years I thought that meant I just hated working out at all and enjoyed my metabolism but was skinnyfat with terrible fitness.
I started Couch to 5k last month and was stunned to find myself enjoying it, looking forward to runs and actually smiling as I trotted along. Turns out runner's high is real, and it feels incredible.
This next bit will sound crazy but when I decided I wanted to go further and be in great shape I just went app crazy. Gyms suck? Fine, I'll work out at home. I grabbed Nike Training Club and GAIN Fitness (both free on iPhone) and -- here's the crazy bit -- a free hypnosis app. Every night I fall asleep listening to the "Exercise Motivation" and "Desire Healthy Food" sessions and I couldn't imagine not working out.
Short answer, try other things until you find something you like. Find a fitness buddy if you can, and if not post your successes here or on a fitness community like Fitocracy. It's really motivating. Good luck n0 -
If you can invest in a bike, I'd really suggest it. I just bought one and I loooove it. And I HATE the stationary bike, so that's saying something. Riding outdoors is just so much more fun. And it may feel a little safer than walking!0

Definately try some fun or corny dance videos and not major dancing, just light fun. Maybe even try marching in place while you are watching TV. I hated exercise too but it was depression keeping me down. My daughter has been a great motivation to get me off my behind. I'm also disabled with fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis but already feeling better with moving around.:happy:0

i do deep cleaning.. like hand scrubbing the floors (great for the butt!) or washing walls, yard work.....
Ladies, listen to this one. I'm off to find a hot maid now.0 -
I don't see how someone can hate exercise. When you get in a good exercise your body releases endorphins to give you that feel good feeling, that is why in many cases exercise becomes as addictive as a drug. Maybe you should just keep doing it, be very positive. Try to do things that you enjoy more so it will be something fun and not just another "to-do". I walk my dogs about a mile or more every morning and do Zumba about twice a week. I am getting amazing results. I'm not spending on a gym membership and I am not killing myself while doing these exercises. Just relax and stay positive.0

i walk in the mall early in the morning or else i do walk at home dvds....
i can't do the high impact stuff either...my knees won't allow it....so i clean and walk...0 -
PLUS, I was in a bad car accident when I was 17. I have a bad hip and a bad knee. The one thing that will make it better is more movement, increase the production of Sinovial Fluid. I guarantee your issues will seem to fade away the more exercise you do. Strengthen your body. Plus, the weight loss will do wonders for that knee.0

There's a video u can purchase called walk the pounds away. I am like u, I have a bad back so it is very hard to do anything. I just started today 10 mins. did me in; but hey we have to start somewhere. This is my 3rd week and I have lost 15 teen pds just watching what I'm eating. I intend to try to walk another 5 or 10 mins each day. Good luck with u and don't be to hard on urself.
Remember, to stretch everyday.0 -

just don't pick one that you're going to get hurt
