Programs/strength training suitable for beginners?

I currently weigh 237 pounds. For exercise lately, I just turn on music and dance around crazily. I love it, it's fun. But I've seen so many programs that I would like to try such as Insanity. Should I even attempt programs like these or are they meant for people that are in better shape?
Also, is there a good guide on strength training for beginners at my weight? I don't have any equipment or a gym membership. I don't know what what exercises to do or how many reps to do, which days to do what or what to focus on first.
In serious need of help, thanks.

Since you don't have a gym membership do you have a library that has exercise DVD's or maybe some friends that have some exercise DVD's that you could borrow? That way you could try some out before buying them yourself to see what you might like or not like.
As for being a beginner like with anything else you start out slow and build with time.
I don't like working out at home so I can't offer any specific ideas on what to do from home but I know a lot of people on here work out at home and love it -hopefully they will chime in.0 -

His methods make a lot of sense and are based upon sound principles.0 -
Insanity is HARD. Really, really hard. It's very high impact, too, which might be difficult at your fitness level. I would start with something else. I love Bob Harper. Currently, all his exercise DVDs on his website are just $5 new.
