I am pretty sure the Penn State situation is not debatable in any way. It is a complete deviation from any resemblance of "institutional control" which is usually what the collegiate organizations call it when they remove a program from the school. The athletic director, head coach, and several other high ranking officials knowing what was going on, they should all be tried as accessories to the atrocities that the mental invalid did to those kids.

Joe Paterno should be ashamed of himself and any good he did for any body should be stripped from his record. He will always be known even after death - the guy who knew what was going on but did nothing about it.

I think anyone who knew anything about it should be fired and be tried for anything and everything the prosecutor can think of. I think the statue of Joe Paterno should be bulldozed.

Penn State has always been one of my least favorite schools, but I do not think they should take any of the wins off his record, even though it would then make my beloved Bobby Bowden the all-time wins leader. His wins on the football field had nothing to do with the travesties that were going on and that he turned a blind eye to. Similarly, I do not believe Penn State should receive the death penalty. The kids playing there now, as well as in the past, had nothing to do with what went on. I think their program will suffer in years to come - I know if I was a highly-touted high school athlete I would in no way consider associating myself with the university.

In my opinion, taking away wins and handing down death penalties should be reserved for things that affect fair play on the playing field. What when on was unspeakable, but it had nothing to do with giving Penn State an unfair advantage on the football field.

I come from a Big Ten school with issues of its own (I still love my Buckeyes!), so I know how Penn State students and fans are feeling. The school they love is still their own so I won't tear it down... HOWEVER, the people involved deserve the worst. I can't even express the horror I feel at the shocking revelations about the entire administration, most particularly Joe Pa due to his long term amazing reputation. I do think they should take the statue down. I'm not sure how I feel about vacating games because there were a lot of good kids that would lose their honor having nothing to do with these crimes.

My heart aches for Penn State... the REAL Penn State... the fans, alumni, and students who support their team like any of the rest of us. They'll get through it, but it's going to be a rough season for the Big Ten, like they need more ribbing after Ohio State's mess...

Absolutely, Top administration officials including Joe Pa intentionally concealed facts and failed to take proper actions regarding that despicable pedophile Jerry Sandusky to avoid damaging its golden egg: Penn State Football. If Penn State football doesn't deserve the death penalty I fail to understand what institution of higher learning where parents entrust the lives and careers of their children must do to get it going forward. I don't care how many games or national championships he won. His legacy is permanently ruined.

What if Sandusky had done those heinous acts to Joe Pa's kids? Would have have turned the other way or feigned ignorance that it was a serious problem. Hell no. He wouldn't have reported anything because he would have taken apart Sandusky as soon as he found out like any parent would do.

I trust Sandusky is in isolation in prison for his own safety. Even among prisoners he is at the lowest rung and they would love to take a shower with him.

I think it's a shame that we live in a culture where there's no doubt that the NCAA would severely punish Penn State's athletics program if they paid their players but will likely do nothing or not enough for covering up decades-long sex abuse. Division I college football is a massive moneymaker. While as an NCAA college football team fan, I can appreciate and sympathize with the embarrassment that Penn State fans must feel, the program itself needs to be either shut down or severely sanctioned for what was allowed to happen there for so long. There is no excuse for any of it.

Furthermore, everyone who actively covered-up Sandusky's wrongdoings or simply failed to alert the authorities after suspecting or knowing what he was doing should be tried under the greatest extent of the law for their crimes and punished in criminal and civil court.

    YES!!!!
  • You all are a breath of fresh air! It's nice to see that there are still people who know right from wrong and wrong should be punished. I don't know about the university program stuff, but each individual who knew what was going and didn't report it to the proper authorities should be charged and tried in court.
