You guys do great work! I hope I can get like that some day!

It's 75 % practice - even if you don't have an inherent eye for composition, composition rules (Rule of thirds for instance )can be learned and practice will have you recognizing the various rules in nature (they exist as rules because they occur naturally and crop up over and over)
In fact so much of the technical aspect is so much easier with the advent of digital because you get instant feedback on everything. I learned on film (and in fact still shoot it for fine art projects and shows) and the feedback was slower due to the time and cost
certainly for the very best there is a level of talent involved that just cannot be learned, sadly i would not count myself in that category no matter what i am shooting. I'm closer to a journeyman or craftsman than an artist (and i think that of most work i see, but every once in a while I'm floored by an image- maybe i'm overly critical)

Finally got them, phew! I am not a good photographer, but I would like to be when I can afford a decent camera. All but the ferret were taken in the Caribbean.

I must say I LOVE this thread. I could requote so MANY of these - they're pretty awesome pictures. I wish I had more time to take pictures and some classes. Here's one of my faves from the zoo that I took a couple weeks ago
