I bought gel bike shorts a few weeks ago. I think I've probably put on about 100 miles in them so far, and I've washed them a couple times per the directions on the tag. I'm just trying to figure out if I'm crazy, or if they kind of wear down and don't feel as awesome as they do the first couple of times. Maybe I'm just getting used to them and take them for granted now? Curious what others think.

They do wear-in a bit. Better brands like Specialized seem nicer, longer.
I also have some nashbars, and they were good /once./ cheap ****.

That helps. So maybe I need to spend more than $50.....

It's worth the money to get a good pair of cycling shorts. Pear Izumi is my favorite brand.

Curious as to why you got gel inserts? A good chamois should be all you need-the gel filled ones can exacerbate saddle issues. Are you experiencing pain in the crotch area?

I wash my shorts on a gentle cycle & let them air dry. They will break down eventually, though. Make sure you do the see-through test in direct sunlight before a ride, otherwise you might be showing off a little more than you intended ;-)
