I had one - a New Balance watch only type. You had to touch your fingers to the front of the watch to take a heart rate reading, and of course for accuracy, the more times you take your heart rate, the more accurate it will be. But that means constantly pausing during a workout, and it didn't always read the first time so it would take too long, etc, etc. After about a month I ditched it and got a New Balance N4 with a chest strap. I like it a lot better - push start on the watch and off I go - nothing to worry about until I stop it when I'm done.

Why are you not wanting the chest strap - worried about discomfort? I don't even think about it once it's on - doesn't bother me at all.

Yeah. I don't think there's much point using one without a chest strap. It's the most accurate measurement. I don't notice mine either.

    I have a Polar FT4 & it's everything I need.
