Question on sodium intake and calories

Here is the silly question for the day:
Let's say you consume a meal high in sodium (ie: Chipotle), but you are still under your calorie intake for the day. Will that high sodium meal make you gain weight, or does it not matter since you are under your allowed calories?
TIA!

Sodium will not make you gain any fat. Only eating more calories than you burn over a length of time will do that. However, a high sodium day can make the scale go up the day after because of water retention. Just try and drink a lot of water and the water weight should go back down in a day or two. :happy:0

Too much sodium will make the number on the scale higher because if your body holds on to water when you have to much salt in it. This is a problem that I struggle with daily. It's so hard not to over do the sodium.. but since it is water weight, just drink extra water on the days you overdo the sodium..0

It may make you retain water even if you are under your calorie goal. I would make sure to drink extra water.0

The excess sodium will increase water retention, so you will not gain fat weight. but you will have more water weight on you for a day or so....unless you eat like that every day, no harm done0

Just make sure you up your water for the day0

I acctually just got finished planning out my meals for the day and I decided to start watching my sodium (I was orginially looking at fiber). My scale has went up almost 5 pounds in about a week and I have been staying under calories and exercising. I think that it is my sodium (which I struggle with daily). I really hope it is water weight0

Sodium isn't going to make you gain weight. It may, however, make you retain water. Definitely eat the remaining calories, just drink an extra two or three glasses of water if you're concerned.0

Thanks so much! That's what I thought.0

I always overkill my sodium no matter what I do...everything I try to eat has 200+ mg of the stuff.0
