The last 10 are the hardest. I used to laugh at that.

When I joined MFP I was looking down a long road of needing to lose 127 pounds. It seemed so overwhelming, such a huge task and I wanted to roll my eyes when I heard someone complain about needing to lose 10 pounds. Now, here I am. I'm in the home stretch and the last 10 refuse to come off. Now I feel like I'm in the thick of the battle. Anyone else out there trying to lose the last 10 and finding yourself stuck?

First, congratulations! That is a phenomenal loss, you and your family must be so proud!

Second, I hate the last few pounds. HATE. Seriously. I lost 30 pounds total, 25 of which came off relatively quickly. For me, it was the last 5 that stuck. It took me 5 months to lose the last 5 pounds, no joke. I tried all of the tricks of zig zagging, eating more, eating less, changing workouts, etc. Nothing worked except patience. My only advice would be to make sure you set MFP for a 0.5 lb/week loss and have lots and lots of patience!

I'm running in to the same thing. I've upped my calories lately and it helped me lose a few, but I'm stuck at 6 pounds above a "normal" BMI. It's an artificial goal - I know that body fat percentage is more important - but I'd like to have a "normal" BMI for the first time in my adult life.

My only advice is to keep on keepin' on and bide your time by working on your overall fitness levels.

    Those suck!!!!

If you didn't take a diet break I would suggest you eat at maintenance for one month then come back down at 0.5 pounds a week. Patience is the word!!!

Good luck and congrat for your great lost

Thanks. Yes, I've been stuck for 7 1/2 months now!!! Like you, I've done it all and even took a diet break and came back at it. I change calories, change foods, switch up workouts, constantly challenge myself. Yes, I'm thankful for the weight I've lost and the health I've gained but I would LOVE to cross the finish line and lose the last 10! I'm never giving up but there are days it really pisses me off.

This is a good idea. You might even consider 100-200 over maintenance coupled with proper heavy lifting, then drop back into a deficit while continuing with heavy lifting.

Oh my do I COMPLETELY understand this now!!! I used to think and feel the same way... eyes rolling, brain scoffing and all!

I have been battling the last stand for months now. I am convinced it will take at least a year to come off. If not longer.

I use to laugh as well.

Now I struggle to lose the last 7lbs for the past 3 months and I have tried many different techniques to make it happen nothing has worked yet, I will keep on trying though!

ive done this, and although it was a WONDERFUL thing, for me anyway, it didn't help to loose any more. But I wasn't loosing anyway, so no harm, no foul. Increasing my intake and being SUPER PATIENT seems to be the key to like 0.1 pounds a week. If im lucky! lol

I agree. That's the right answer. Unfortunately, when you've had someone who has had a goal in mind for so long (I've struggled with weight all my adult life, and I'm looking at a "normal" BMI for the first time, 6 pounds away, so tantalizingly close!).

I'm really beginning to sympathize more with people who crash diet and do unfortunate things to their health in the name of reaching a meaningless (to one's health) but important (to oneself) goal. LOL

I am sorry, for some reason I thought I was responding to a woman. Actually for a man you might even go to 300-400 over maintenance for a bit and then drop back. Basically doing a slow bulk adding muscle with no fat. This will help reverse some adaptation your body has done to eating at a deficit, add muscle to your frame which is cool in itself, but also increases your BMR, and will make you stronger.

Congrats to all the folks down to that last ten pounds. I'm not there yet, but I can see it coming. I just happened to pull my my progress report on MFP last night and set it for the last year. It shows a curve that's starting to bottom out with the weight loss coming slower and slower. So, I guess I'll probably be in that "Last 10 pounds" group eventually.

I'm just starting into the dreaded final 10 after a 2 week break where I was eating at maintenance levels. I'm only a week in to taking it seriously again but already the scale is bouncing. down, up, down. I have a feeling its going to be a long road! LOL! Luckily I'm concentrating more on fitness right now, as I'm training for my first 2 Triathlons. Once those are over I can work on strength training/lifting to hopefully help burn off the rest of this fluff.

I also used to chuckle when people told me the last ten pounds would be difficult. I've lost 55 overall and I figured another ten couldn't possibly be more difficult than the first 50!

Maybe it's because I can see the metaphorical light at the end of the tunnel and I want to sprint to the finish line, and most weeks I'm still losing, but man these last pounds really feel like they hate me.

Exactly what I'm doing now. I bounce up and down the same 5 pounds while trying to ditch the final 10.

Yes.......................the last 10 is stuck on me like freakin crazyGLUE! I have been the same weight now for over a year.............and while it's nice to "maintain" it really hasn't been intentional. I want it gone..............I fluctuate a bit as in the last 10 is sometimes 15 or 18 but I have not yet been able to reach single digits.

I also used to laugh at those people that wanted to lose 10 lbs but now I see how hard it is and I can see how much of a struggle it really truly is. Losing 100 lbs was easy the next 40ish took some work, but the rest is damn near impossible.

I could have written this myself. Stuck like crazy glue for sure! I also fluctuate up and down the same freaking pounds. I found the first 80 to 100 easy, the last 13 were insane and now it's damn near impossible!
