My walking buddy is leaving...

My BFF is my walking buddy, but she's going away tomorrow and will be gone for a month. We don't always walk together if she's busy. Sometimes I walk alone, but it's a lot easier when she's there. I'm afraid I'll lose my motivation while she's gone, and I've been doing so well the last two weeks. I'm feeling pretty blue since I have to say goodbye today, and I don't feel like doing much of anything.

walking buddies are great! but sometimes you may get distracted by talking to them a lot and not focus on ur workout. so take this time to focus on yourself and your walk. take in the outdoors if you are walking outdoors, if you are indoors, listen to your favorite music- the kind you know will keep you upbeat and active. i love rihanna for example, "please don't stop the music" that keeps me pumped up sometimes i just play that over and over on my mp3 player and puts a smile on my face.
hope that helps!0 -

Hi. There isn't any reason to feel blue  I power walk 3 miles during my lunch time all by myself! I have seen others who are into the buddy system and they chit chat about this and that and their "pace" slows down. I do two laps around them while they are at a slow pace. When I power walk I have my headsets on and I jam to the music. If it's a fast upbeat song I watch myself walking faster. I've had others TRY to chit chat w/me and I'll be polite and talk to them a while and tell them, "I saw you talking to the elderly woman the other day, did you know you were walking "slower" than normal because when you chit chat you're not watching your pace and I did two laps around ya'll" I'll then excuse myself and power walk at a normal "faster pace". He didn't realize his own pace and since then he's been walking by himself. He plays football for the Navy (I work for the Army/Civilian so don't salute me  Since then I have been seeing him walking FASTER than before and he actually runs every now and then around the track, too. I just  to myself since I know he "got what I had to tell him". I've also seen people talking on their cell phone and guess what?! Their "pace" is just as slow if they were talking to their "buddy" side-by-side. I'm an observer....I watch things and learn.
So don't be discouraged. It's time to walk by yourself. I have this motto, "I was born by myself, I can do things by myself". I am not a follower as you can tell. I have to "up" my exercise regimen and I have. I can't do that by waiting for my "buddy" to try to keep up with me. I've also had other ladies from work tell me at the beginning, "We've seen you walking the track, and we pass by you, too". "Yeah" I told them, "One of these days I'll pass YOU by!". Guess what? I have. They stopped walking the track because they were at a buddy system, too. It complicates things altogether when you have to wait for that buddy and one gives up altogether (I've seen it happen, Girl). I don't want that to happen to you. Those ladies that told me they pass by me (back in March 2009)??? well, they haven't been walking the track anymore. I have. I have lost 16.2 pounds since then (Eva doing a jig
You are YOUR buddy! Grab your headsets and go out walking! Enjoy the time to YOURSELF! When your buddy comes back you would have lost weight and gained confidence when you "log in" the days you walked. Blessings!

aw, that stinks :flowerforyou:
dont let it get the best of you though! i have a couple ideas:
~ keep it up! grab an ipod or something and make yourself do it. think of it as alone time to gather your thoughts. you can even start challenging yourself more and push yourself further, set personal goals like today i walk around the block 3 times, tomorrow, 5 times...
~ offer to walk a neighbor/friends dog. might be fun! just make sure you have baggies
whatever you do, dont stop!!! just think, when you buddy gets back in a month, you will have lost x amount of pounds just by sticking with it! you will inspire her to get back out there with ya!!!
good luck! :flowerforyou:0 -
Keep motivated!! Put on some music and keep walking!
If you feel lonely, maybe you can call her while walking? Not sure how many minutes you have, but here's to hoping you guys can utilize mobile to mobile free minutes! :drinker: (if by chance you do use your cell phone while walking, be certain to remain extra cautious about your surroundings.... same for any mp3 players too.)0 -

Actually, I have been kinda thinking about the weight I'll lose by the time she's back. I'm at 162 right now, but I could be below 159 by then. That's definitely something I can look forward to. We're tentatively planning a trip to the outlet mall when she returns. I'm gonna need a new wardrobe.
I'm pretty sure she won't have a problem coming out to walk with me again. She's always been the fitness pusher, not me. And I just happen to park at her house to walk at the park nearby. :laugh:0 -

oh you so got this woman! i am excited to know how the month goes and how much you lose between now and then! :drinker:0 -
I only got in 3 days of walking last week, and it was hard to get out there. Not only do I miss my buddy, but it's turned gloomy and cold in the last week here in northern Indiana. Today I walked on my treadmill, but not even for 30 minutes. I'm trying to hang in there.0
