Did I do something wrong?

Actually did some weights today. I don't understand why the guys were looking at me weird. I mean... I know I'm short, and I only picked up fifteen pounds to do my bodyweight squats/lunges/deadlifts... But I'm pretty sure my form was right!!! Anyone have a clue? It doesn't really bother me. I just wish they wouldn't! It's be easier if they just told me to adjust my form. :/

Maybe they were impressed that you were out there just doing it? :flowerforyou:

Maybe they're just not used to seeing women lift?

I feel really underconfident in the free weights section of my gym, but no one has ever stared or laughed so I figure I must not look too clueless!

Bottom line, screw'em. We're there to work on our health.

It is just nice to see a girl who knows what she is doing in the weight room, it was mostly likely a compliment :)

Guys do that usually because they're shocked to see a woman on what they believe to be the "guy's side" of the gym.

Keep doing your thing and know that weight lifting is for EVERYONE, not just the fellas. Great job! :drinker:

Maybe they were looking at you because you look awesome! Or maybe they aren't used to seeing women do free weights. I'm the only female at my gym (Gold's) who does free weights. I wouldn't worry about it; take it as a compliment!

I agree with wildcata. They may just be impressed that a woman is in the freeweight section.

If you are up to it, ask them. It can't hurt and maybe they'll give you some tips

I'd don't know; I wasn't there. Also, they may not have been looking at you as much as you think.

Just ask them if they have any suggestions for your form.

I used to feel self conscious in the free weight section because it's usually all guys, but you just have to get over it. You're there for you, not because you're trying to impress them (I hope!). Just keep at it and eventually they'll get used to you and you'll build confidence.

Oh... I never thought of any of that. Now that i think about it...all the other women are using the weight machines instead...

I'm clueless! But maybe I WILL ask them for some tips. Maybe. Guys make me nervous!

A girl in the free weight room is like a unicorn, a mythical beast that everyone has heard of but has never seen.

Here comes the tough love. Guys stare at you when you lift. Either directly or in the mirror. You have two choices: get over it and keep lifting, or go running back to the cardio room with the other girls. I would advise you to keep lifting. After you have been there for a while, they will get used to you and stop staring as much. Some of them may even offer some helpful tips and keep the weirdos away.

I will NEVER forget one day I walked up to a free weight Leg Press that had what I thought was a heavy amount of plates and asked "do you need help - removing the plates" - Her reply was "NO, I have three more sets"! :) Everyone's comments are spot on, its not you they are just not use to seeing females in the Free Weight area.

    KEEP LIFTING :)
