Polar FT4 HRM question

Ok, so I'm obviously stupid  and can't figure this out-partly (I hope) due to the fact that I’m at work and I can’t give it all of my attention. I ordered a Polar PFT4 last week and it came in the mail today  I thought I could use it to figure out my calories even without the band on? Am I wrong in thinking that or do I need to set it up first with the band on and get my heart rate then it’ll do it? I tried wearing it for a bit today and letting it run but it still says zero calories. Any help from anyone that has one? I looked online and it just gives me the little packet of info that came with it.

Nope, you have to wear the band and transmitter!

You have to wear the band for your hr to get through. I doubt the Polar will give you a good BMR-type number, it is meant for determining the calories burned in a workout (which it does rather well once you enter your sex, weight, etc).

I did enter my weight and all that info so I guess I'll be good to go tomorrow morning!. I thought people had said they wore their's all the time-I can't see myself wearing the band all day at work lol Maybe I would have been better off just getting the fitbit :ohwell:

The Polar is really only accurate for cardio. Sounds like you might need to return it and get something else if that isn't what you got it for.

I spoke with a couple people here and they said it did exactly what the fitbit does and that's what I wanted-I have an app on my phone that I've compared to my boyfriend's old HRM and it's the same. I wanted something to help me figure out what I burn perday (sitting ect). Thanks for your help!
