'Reactivating' old muscle?

This might be a silly question, but it has been something I've been unable to find an answer to!
I was a competitive swimmer for 12 years, and as a result had broad shoulders and a big back from all the muscle, and I hated it! I've since managed to slim down my arms and shoulders, but my back still bumps me up a dress size.
Since I've started working out again, I've been quite worried that I will find myself building back my swimming-era physique. Is this likely? How can I avoid this? I'm doing the 30DS and using small hand weights, but I find myself concerned every time I feel my shoulders start to burn :blushing: Any input?

It is easier to regain muscle you once had than to gain it anew. However, to do either one you must train with progression on weight or reps or both AND eat a surplus of calories.
