Sick and tired of being fat!

As above, im definitely tired of being this way. I feel stuck in a rutt and can't seem to change my lifestyle. What was your life changing event that made you actually change your lifestyle? I have been struggling with my weight since i was 17 years old, and I would love to have it back down to a normal range by the time i'm 25! I've got a good 40 lbs to lose and im sick and tired of giving it a half-*kitten* try. The last 6 months have been horrible, I've been so stressed with work and such that I havent even lost anything and ive almost given up the gym completely.....I need some inspiration here....

What motivated you to change? and how did you stick to it? (the sticking to it seems to be my biggest problem)

The things that you mentioned being sick and tired of sound likevery good motivation to make a change. I didn't have a huge life changing event. I had lost weight in the past and gained it back. I was in rut too until a friend of mine posted something on FB about her weight loss using MFP. It got me to thinking again getting my life turned around. So I logged on one day and started tracking my food. After a few weeks, I started to feel better and more optimistic about the possibility of success.
Lots of people have a quote on their profile that is something like, "A year from now you will wish you had started today." I don't usually like trite quotes but that one really does help keep me going.0 -
I think the defining moment for me was when I was walking on one of my favorite park trails. It is a slight incline but not awful. I struggled to get up there one day. My back hurt, my gut hurt, my knees and feet hurt. I was just so sick of not being able to be as active as I could be. I quit smoking to get healthy and here I was overworking my heart, my liver, and God knows what else I was damaging with all the extra weight. I finally realized I could not go on living with the extra weight. It was too heartbreaking. I, too, hated not being able to look good in a swimming suit, or having tight clothes, etc. I biked back and forth to work most days since
May of 2008 and walked and still was overweight. I was not burning off what I ate though. Not enough to even put a dent in the weight. I just made a decision that I would not, could not live the rest of my life like I was. This site has helped me alot. We are all here for mostly the same reasons. I started recording all my exercise, calories, water, etc. on here. Something I was too lazy to do before, but this site makes it easy and there is so much support here. I really watched my portion sizes too. And exercise, exercise, exercise. I go over my daily amounts here and there but burn a lot of it off and am still losing. You are right, the sticking too it seems to be my biggest problem in the past also. It looks like you have been on this site for awhile, so I am sure you have a support system on here.0 -
I can relate I am 29 as well all my life weight has always been an issue for me. Work is so stressful,trying to go to school, and the gym is not easy. I keep myself motivated by setting new goals when I’ve reached one. I use to weigh 350lbs now I am at 176lbs still pushing hard. Its is a never ending battle. I try to be positive. Ability is what you're capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it. So keep on pushing yourself. If you need an extra buddy feel free to add me0

I started my journey just over 2 weeks ago.. I have been "trying" for a long time, but 2 weeks is when I officially started taking things serious.. Even though I started a little over 2 weeks ago though, it wasn't until last night that I hit my breaking point.. I had my hubby take some "before" pictures for me in a bikini so I could see my progress as I go, and when I looked at them it was a punch in the gut.. I knew for a long time now that I needed to lose weight.. 4 years to be exact.. But when i looked at those pictures, I realized that the mirror hasn't been completely honest with me.. I have a LOT more work to do than what I had originally thought.. Those photos are what gave me the motivation to take everything more seriously.. My suggestion to you is to do the same.. Have someone take some pictures of you.. Anytime you need motivation, look at those pictures & remind yourself of the reason you are really trying to lose weight..
Also, remind yourself that if you give up now, you will have to start all over again.. Would you rather be at your goal weight a few months down the line? Or do you want to be starting from scratch a few months from now?

My motivation was having my daughter. She is now one and ALWAYS on the go! I decided that she deserved a Mommy who could run and play wit her, and not have to sit on the side while she's off playing. Also, my Sister in law is an AWESOME help! She has dropped 150 pounds in no time at all, because she works her butt off! (pun intended!) She is helping me with this, and gives me great advice.0

Thanks everybody for the inspiring stories! It has definitely helped me to get off my butt this week! I have been doing pretty well, got my *kitten* to the gym twice already this week, and signed up for a 5K run in September as my goal to work towards. I think this is the real thing this time, as im setting small goals for myself and accomplishing them feels great!
