I'm just looking for some advice on the function of carbs in the diet, i know it is quite a general question but I'm wondering if I'm eating foods with high carbs yet on my calorie limit am I likely to be putting on more weight?
Its not that I eat this way all the time but some days I have mini-meals and sometimes I notice a lot of my meals are carb focused for example things like cream-crackers or special k or toast and these are foods I eat daily, is this a bad thing? Should i be going off carbs if I'm dieting?

if they're processed and junky carbs, absolutely.
stick to good ones, like beans, sweet potatoes, whole grains for bread.0 -
some people do quite well on the MFP suggested percentage of carbs (40%, I think). However...there are people like me who follow that and struggle to lose every single ounce. Then we REDUCE, not eliminate our carb intake, and the weight melts off. I spent 3 months working my booty off for 90 minutes 3-4x a week to lose a measly 7 pounds. I cut my carbs to under 100g net per day, and lost 8 pounds the first month, 6 pounds the second month. I also reduced my workout to about 60 minutes. As long as I have the carbs left, I sometimes eat every last calorie I am allowed! yet the weight still keeps coming off....0

First off your body needs the carbs for energy, its your body's main source of energy. Yeah you really dont want to eat bad carbs, but if your hitting your calorie deficit consistently then I would not worry about it too much. You will still lose weight0

You can eat Berries, melon on low carb. I eat fruit every day, I just count the carbs along with my calories. People have different health issues some people live on pizza and white bread, white rice, processed foods and just have to keep their calories lower and they lose weight. You have to decide what is best for your body.0 -
I have been doing pretty well following the MFP guidelines, including carbs. My MFP carb ratio is 55% and I am usually around that, give or take a few percent.
Carbs are fuel. Personally I don't really buy in to the whole "processed junk carbs vs so-called clean carbs" I really don't believe your body knows the difference, but it makes some people feel good. (Just a personal opinion)
Sure, you should eat as much "natural" food as you can but I really don't sweat it all that much. For me it's about a lifestyle, not a diet and so far I have been getting the results I want and my latest blood work has shown tremendous improvement in the numbers (meaning I am a lot healthier than I was before).0 -
You can reduce carbs...but not cut them out completely. I eat low carb bread, small amounts of pasta, avoid rice. I concentrate on veggies and protein. But I allow myself a couple treats as long as they are within my numbers.0

Thanks very much everyone for replying, actually helped me make more sense of it all, recently looking at my eating habits I do realise a lot of foods in my diet are very high on carbs and I'm just going to try and mix it up a bit.0
