To avoid plateaus, you gotta keep your body constantly guessing. Change up your diet and your routine every four to six weeks. Try some fasted morning HIIT cardio or lifting heavier weights.

it's hard to give idea because your OP is kind of vague:

how far are you from your goal weight?
    what's your body fat %
    what are your macros like?
    are you watching your sodium?
are you judging your loss by the scale or by your measurements?
    what's you general body shape?

    Bump

What exactly does HIIT constitute? I'm confused.

I was stuck in a bad rut as well! And then over the last 2 weeks I have dropped 2 pounds (doesn't seem like much but a pound a week is the healthy weight loss I'm striving for).

I was very active during my vacation even though I ate somewhere near 2500-3000 calories a day (strenuous mountain hiking). Then I went to a national fencing tournament, and though I ate an entire plate of PF Changs, I had worked hard to earn it.

It ALL has to do with your activity level. If you don't move, neither will your weight!! I think cutting calories alone will work but it will be a LOT slower than if you exercise but still have the same net calories.

Let's say that you are aiming for 1500/day. If you eat 1500 calories but don't exercise VERSUS if you eat 1900 calories but burn 400 (still net 1500)...the one that includes exercise will yield better results in the long term.

Why? Because with exercise, you build up muscle. More muscle mass can help you burn more calories even when you are not being active. Fat just sits there :) Keep it up! I know how frustrating it is, but you WILL break the plateau if you stick with it!

Being a guy I might be different but for me it was eliminating or cutting breads, starches, alcohol, grains, sugar, dairy and sodium. When I did that, along with cardio and strength training of course, the weight fell off my stubborn tummy. Before that it didn't matter how strict I was about calories in/calories out my belly just would not budge until I finally heeded my trainer's advice.
