Calories when pregnant

I don't want you to assume that I am trying to lose weight, that is not the case, but being pregnant, I want to minimize the weight that I gain to only weight that is necessary for my pregnancy. I decided to come back to MFP after realizing that I have already gained almost 7 pounds in my first trimester! NOT GOOD as I am already considered Obese with a BMI of 32. Trying to keep the weight gain to a minimal.

Using MFP prior to pregnancy, I was allowed 1,200 calories. Now, I am in my second trimester and need to know how many extra calories I am to consume daily. Hope you guys can help me out here. Thanks so much! :drinker:

It's best to get that advice from your ob/gyn or a nutritionist. If you were losing weight on 1200 calories though, your maintenance is prob. somewhere 1500-1800 calories, and you need to add at least 300 to that for pregnancy (bringing you to 1800-2100 cals./day).

Your Dr. can also give you a list of foods to stay away from, like high mercury fish, and deli meat/unpasteurized cheese. They'll also tell you what foods are OK but should be eaten in moderation.

You probably need to eat more than that. Calcuate your TDEE and add 300. http://www.fitnessfrog.com/calculators/tdee-calculator.html

For example, I'm eating 2200 calories now in my first trimester based on my current height, weight, and activity level. In my second trimester I will increase to 2500 calories a day, and I think to 2650 a day in my third, if I'm remembering correctly.
