Low carbers - how do you maintain diet when travelling

At the end of August I'm going to be travelling for a few weeks. I've been getting most of my carbs lately from just fruit and veg and trying to avoid starchy carbs (don't want to get too much into the reasons why - primarily it's to address high cholesterol).

Last time I went on hols for a week that diet was forgotten about quickly, sort of half decided what the hell I'm on holidays and half just too much temptation to avoid. That was for 1 week and not much damage done in the end - but really don't want to let things slide for 3 weeks.

So just wondering if others who have been on low carb diets for longer than me have any tips - especially any particular types of restaurants - I'm into all sorts of cuisines - but can't recall any not having some sort of starchy food as part of just about every dish, but I'm sure there must be.

Pick the steak option, sub in veggies/salad for chips, avoid salad dressings, carry hard-boiled eggs and some raw nuts for snacks.

You can always just have fast food and ditch the buns/whatever, not ideal but it'll do :)

On a wider perspective I'd question whether having 'high cholesterol' is a reliable indicator of future cardiovascular issues, if this is your issue, but each to their own :)

I have found that it's so much easier going on vaca on low carb! I no longer worry about what to eat - I go to cobb salads, meant entrees and substitute veggies on the side.... Mmmmm!

    Thanks Vim.
Yeah steak with veggies and salad is a good option. I thought salad dressings were mostly fats or am i wrong? Certainly the salad dressing I have at home is olive oil and herbs. Raw nuts is a good idea - I do that sometimes anyway but must remember - easy to forget to do stuff like that.

Yeah fast food without the buns is an option alright. not ideal but it'll do like you say!

Don't want to get sidetracked too much on the cholesterol issue - everything I read seems to indicate that it is a big indicator. Heart problems are on both sides of the family so that's why I'm being very proactive about it. Anyway I'm always interested to hear a different point if view so if you can point me to something that says different to what I've read so far I'll keep an open mind.

@mstorvik Thanks. Cobb salad looks good - just Googled it. Don't think we can get cobb salads this side of the pond though :(
